Bernie doesn't view communist China as a threat, because the promises of communist China are identical to his campaign promises.
The problem is paying for it.
China's economic success was built on the U.S. as the host. This is the flaw in Communist economics. Ask the Soviets.

Beyond the pure economics of communism, the "paying for it" aspect, there's the complete lack of freedom.
