Due to this tweet, I need to take a moment to explain Briscoe Cain’s origin story to people outside Texas… 
Briscoe is a tiny far-right legislator known for a variety of bigotries, notably his anti-transgender views.
When Briscoe ran for his seat a few years ago, the Republican primary that year was almost entirely focused on transgender bathroom panic. Every candidate was trying to be tough on bathrooms. Briscoe was no exception.
But near the end of the campaign, Briscoe’s opponent sent a mail piece with pictures of Briscoe when he was living a different lifestyle.
What’s really weird is that Briscoe’s opponent, an old guard GOP doofus named Wayne Smith, denied sending the mailer. Smith’s campaign manager claimed it was actually Briscoe circulating the mailer.
Nobody knows for sure what happened. The mailer has a campaign disclosure for Smith on it. Why in the world would you put your name on a rat-fucking mailer? You make up a disposable PAC for that.
There a sympathetic article in the paper, which was probably seen by way more people than the mailer. Briscoe cried foul at his opponent using pictures "from when he was younger." The rumor is that the pics were about to leak, and Briscoe was trying to preempt that. Who knows?
It’s also weird because it wasn’t really a secret. Everyone who knew Briscoe in Deer Park knew he was gay. He wasn’t exactly closeted about it. He was a high school cheerleader. In Deer Park, Texas.
In any case, it seems Briscoe found one of those Pence re-education camps, got himself a wife, and managed to pump out a few kids for his hetero merit badge. And now he’s into guns and horses and Jesus and acting tough to Beto O’Rourke.
