🎉Today is Pharmacy Technician Day, and once again, we're delighted to feature some of our fab pharmacy techs on our feed!

We'll be posting a few pictures of the team and letting you know a bit more about their work...#RXTechDay Image
First up is Suja, who is an educational supervisor. Suja is currently supervising Renata, who’s undertaking the @HEE_LaSEPharm Medicines Optimisation Course to become a clinical pharmacy technician

When she completes the course Renata will be assigned her own ward #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm Gabriela is on the @cppeengland Accuracy Checking course, which requires her to accurately check 1000 items & complete a final assessment to become an ACPT.

She will then be allowed to final check prescriptions that have been clinically screened by a pharmacist. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland Tyrone is our Senior Homecare Pharmacy Technician. He ensures our homecare orders are properly invoiced & patients receive their medicines promptly.

Our homecare service helps prevent unnecessary hospital visits for patients who are stable on long term medicines #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland This is our non-sterile lab, where Ashley is supervising the preparation of medication.

Strict protocols are in place to ensure that doses aren’t contaminated and all staff must ‘gown up’ in a special area before entering the room. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland Avril is one of our patient services pharmacy technicians and is currently working in our clinical trials pharmacy.

Clinical trials ensure that a medication is safe and effective before it receives a license, and all trials must be documented thoroughly. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland Sophie is currently working with our infectious disease team and her duties involve helping to run the Courtyard pharmacy, which is a specialist dispensary.

She ensures we have a good supply of critical medications and liaises with other teams to help coordinate care. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland Our main pharmacy is run by Theresa, who joined the Trust last year.

She manages a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs) who work together to ensure prescriptions are dispensed accurately and reach patients promptly. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland Here’s one of our future pharmacy technicians! Dharen has just started the second year of his course and should qualify next summer.

He will then register with @TheGPhC and legally be allowed to use the pharmacy technician title. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland @TheGPhC Ewelina is performing a ‘POD’ check, which is an assessment of the Patient’s Own Drugs to ensure all medications are current, in date and labelled correctly.

If any issues are identified Ewelina will make the patient aware and order replacement medication if needed. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland @TheGPhC Charlotte is our Clinical Operations Manager.

She plays an important role in service development and optimisation and helps to ensure the department has a responsive approach to any changes in the wider healthcare world. #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland @TheGPhC Emma is our ePMA (electronic prescribing and medicines administration) pharmacy technician & was involved in the roll out of our new medication & records system.

She helps colleagues across the multi-disciplinary team with queries and helps train staff on its use #RxTechDay Image
@HEE_LaSEPharm @cppeengland @TheGPhC Mollie is our first Clinical Transcribing Pharmacy Technician and she co-ordinates discharge prescriptions between the wards and the departure lounge.

She is being trained to transcribe these prescriptions to facilitate this process and support patient flow. #RxTechDay Image
Phew, and that's it for our #RxTechDay tweets! Thanks again to all of our pharmacy technicians!

To celebrate #WorldSickleCellDay, we'll be sharing a series of short videos created by our paediatric haematology and red cell team. 📹

In our first video, patients Mapaolo, Elle and Jennifer explain what it's like living with the condition 👇

@SickleCellUK | #ShareSickle
"I have been taking hydroxyurea since the age of ten and I have recently started the red cell exchange."

Everyone's treatment journey is different and individual to them - hear from some of our patients about their experiences. #SickleCellAwareness #WorldSickleCellDay
"Having a good support system really does help me feel less alone"

In addition to treatment, some of our patients say talking and sharing their experiences with others helps them to cope with their condition. #SickleCellAwareness #WorldSickleCellDay

We want patients & visitors to stay safe when using our services. This includes observing social distancing; washing hands regularly; and from 15 Jun wearing a face covering when visiting our hospitals or community services. Our Chief Nursing Officer @BleasdaleRob explains why 👇
More guidance about wearing a face covering, and who is exempt, can be found on our website 👇

stgeorges.nhs.uk/news/coronavir…
It's important that you wear your face covering properly:

➡️ Wash your hands before wearing
➡️ Ensure it covers your mouth and nose
➡️ Avoid touching your face

Today, NHS Improvement has published an independent mortality review of our heart surgery service at St George’s Hospital: stgeorges.nhs.uk/newsitem/heart…

The review found failings in the care we gave many heart surgery patients between 2013-2018, and we are deeply sorry for this. [1/4]
We would like to say sorry to the relatives of those patients who were let down by us – the care they received fell far short of the high standards they deserved.

We are in direct contact with relatives, and continuing to offer them all the support we can. [2/4]
Our heart surgery service is now safe, and the current service is very different to the one we took urgent steps to improve. This was confirmed by the @CareQualityComm in their latest report: cqc.org.uk/location/RJ701 [3/4]

To minimise the risk of Coronavirus infection, we have decided to temporarily restrict visiting arrangements at our hospitals.

Full details here: stgeorges.nhs.uk/newsitem/coron…
We are asking friends & relatives to only visit patients if absolutely essential. They should also not visit our hospitals if they have flu-like symptoms, cough, fever or a cold.
If you really do need to visit, please only do so between 5-7pm (weekdays and weekends), with an absolute maximum of two visitors per patient.
