About 1300 AD descendant of Pruthviraj Chauhan settled in Champaner-Pavagadh. One of their ancestors was Khichi Hamir. So they are known as Khichi.15 century Chapaner-Pavagadh Khinchi Chauhan ruler was Jaysinh Rawal.He was famous as Patai Rawal.Patai is Gujarati form of Pavapati.
In 1482 AD Gujarat Sultnat officer Malek Sudha at Rasulabad near Champaner state entered in Champaner state.He looted & killed innocent Champner people. Champaner Khinchi Chauhan ruler Jaysinh arrested & killed Gujarat Sultnat officer Malek Sudha for killing & looting his subject
In 1482 AD Gujarat Sultan Mahmud received news of killing of his officer Malek Sudha by Champaner ruler Jaysinh.He decided to invade Champaner.On 12-12-1482 Gujarat Sultan Mahmood Begada with huge army marched to Vadodara to invade Champaner to punish it ruler Jaysinh-Patai Rawal
In 1483 AD Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada invaded Champaner. It ruler Jaysinh could not resist & went into hill fort Pavagadh. Sultan besieged fort. Champaner ruler Jaysinh sent message to Malwa Sultan Gyasudin Khilji seeking his help against Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada invasion.
In 1483 AD Malwa Sultan Gyasudin Khilji agreed to help Champaner ruler Jaysinh on a term of payment of 1 Lakh Tanka per day. Malwa Sultan Gyasuddin left Mandu for Champaner. Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada went to Dahod to fight Malwa Sultan who was coming to help Champaner ruler.
In 1483 AD Malwa Sultan Gyasudin was advised by Ulemas not to help a Hindu king Jaysinh against a fellow Muslim Gujarat Sultan. So he went back. Gujarat Sultan Mahmud besieged Jaysinh Rawals invincible Pavagadh fort. Sultan army chiefs were Muhafizkhan, Malik Sarang & Malik Ayaz.
In 1483 AD Champaner-Pavagadh ruler Jaysinh sent message to Sultan Mahmud offering 180 kgs gold, diamonds,2 years grain stock, jewellery for truce. Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada refused Champaner-Pavagadg ruler Jaysinh truce offer by saying,'My swords & daggers will give answer'.
In 1483 AD Gujarat Sultnat Diu naval chief Malik Ayaz who was a Russian white slave then free Amir brought foreign cannons from Diu to Pavagadh. CANNONS WERE FIRST TIME used in the history of India by Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada in the battle of Pavagadh. Gunners were foreigners
In 1484 Sultan Mahmud army dug tunnel to enter Pavagadh fort.For digging tunnel wood was purchased from local poor by paying 1 Lakh Tankas. On 21-11-1484 Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada & his army entered in Pavagadh fort after 20 months of siege.Malik Sarang entered through tunnel.
On 21-11-1484 Gujarat Sultnat naval chief Malik Ayaz broke Pavagadh fort wall by cannon fire.He,Sultan Mahmud & soldiers entered in Pavagadh. When Sultan army entered in Pavagadh,700 Rajputs bathed in the lake & done Keshariya. They all fought bravely & sacrificed their lives.
In 1484 AD inside Pavagadh battle ruler Jaysinh & his chief minister Dharamsi were injured. They were caught alive by Gujarat Sultan Mahmud army. When Sultan army entered in Pavagadh fort queens, women & children burnt themselves in fire of pyre.2 princesses were saved by Sultan.
In 1485 after 5 months healing captive Pavagadh ruler Jaysinh & his CM Dharamsi were given option to adopt Islam or to die by Sultan Mahmud. Pavagadh Khinchi Chauhan Rajput ruler Jaysinh & his CM Dharamsi refused to adopt Islam.They both were killed by beheading by Sultan Mahmud.
In 1485 AD during death penalty execution, Champaner-Pavagadh chief minister Dharamsi snatched soldier sword & killed Sultanat Amir Shekhan Kabir. Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada won Gujarat's invincible fort Pavagadh which his brave grandfather Sultan Ahmedshah could not win.
As per myth in 15th century Mahakali descended in woman form to Champaner to dance in Navratri.King Jaysinh misbehaved with her.She cursed him. Defeat of Pavagadh Chauhan-Khinchi king Patai Rawal Jaysinh in battle with Sultan Mahmud Begada was due to Mata Mahakali's curse on him.
In 1484 AD Sultan Mahmud Begada defeated & killed Champaner-Pavagadh Chauhan ruler Jaysinh who had 3 sons-Ramsinh,Limbaji,Tejsinh & 2 daughters. Pavagadh ruler Jaysinh's elder son Ramsinh died earlier,2nd son Limbaji fled away after Jaysinh defeat & 3rd prince Tejsinh was caught.
In 1484 AD Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada handed over prince Tejsinh of Champaner Chauhan ruler Jaysinh to Amir Saif-ul-Mulk family for upbringing. Champaner-Pavagadh ex-ruler Jaysinh Chauhan's son Tejsinh was brought up as Muslim & named Malek Husen by Saif-ul-Maulk family.
15 century Champaner Chauhan prince Tejsinh brought up as Muslim Malek Husen later became big Amir & titled Nizam-ul-Mulk by Sultan Muzffar. In 1485 two princesses of defeated Champaner ruler Chauhan Jaysinh who were caught alive were sent to Zenana-queens palace by Sultan Mahmud
15th century defeated Champaner Chauhan ruler Jaysinh's grandsons Pruthvirajsinh & Dungarsinh became outlaws against Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada. They looted villages in the area of Narmada river of Gujarat Sultnat in protest against Sultnat.
15th century Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada gifted some villages to Champaner ex-ruler Chauhan Jaysinh's outlaw grandsons Pruthvirajsinh & Dungarsinh to satisfy their protest & demand. They founded Chhota Udaipur & Baria states from the land estates gifted by Gujarat Sultnat.
In 1484 AD Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada won Champaner.He liked its climate & strategical importance. So he decided to make it Sultnat capital. Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada founded new Champaner near old Champaner.He built 'Champaner Bhadra fort' for royal family palaces.
15th century Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada made Champaner his new capital & named it as 'Muhammadabad' in memory of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SA). Sultan Mahmud Begada built fort around his new capital Champaner & named fort 'Jahanpanah'.He built Gujarat best Masjid Jami Masjid here.
In 1484-85 AD Champaner became Gujarat Sultnat capital. It was Gujarats 6th capital.With shifting of capital,Ahmedabad importance decreased. As per history book 'Mirat-i-Sikandari' Champaner was biggest city of Gujarat in 15th century and it was one of top cities of India & world
In the 15th-16th century, Gujarat Sultnat capital Champaner's prosperity was at the peak. Top Amirs (lords) & rich traders built large palace-like mansions here. Ruined Champaner city is declared a World Heritage Site by #UNESCO. ImageImageImageImage
15-16 century Sultnat capital Champaner was famous for fruits & flowers gardens around it. In 'Mirat-i-Sikandari' its description is given. In 1485 a Khorasani garden architect built a beautiful unique Persian garden 'Bag-i-Halul' with fountains at Halol near Champner for Sultan.
In 16th century a Gujarati carpenter named Bilu copied 'Bag-i-Halul' & built a similar garden for Sultan Mahmud at his hunting lodge Halol. As per history book 'Mirat-i-Sikandari' there was sandalwood forest near Champaner in old time.People used sandalwood in house construction.
15 century Gujarat Sultan Mahmud Begada founded mint at Champaner & issued coins from there. 'Shahar-i-Muharram' was written on these coins.Champaner was Gujarat capital for 50 years. In time of Gujarat Sultan Bahadurshah (1526-1537 AD) Sultnat capital shifted to Ahmedabad again.
In 16th century Gujarat capital shifted from Champaner to Ahmedabad again. Champaner became deserted. Traders & professionals migrated from there. Champaner city ruined. People migrated to other parts of Gujarat. Some of them have 'Champaneria' & 'Pavagadhi' surnames.
