LIVE at 11:00am ET: Deputy Attorney General Rosen to speak at @WFULawSchool about the Department of Justice’s efforts to combat violent crime and enforce the rule of law. wfu.law/Deputy-Attorne…
@WFULawSchool “At the Department of Justice, reducing violent crime is one of our very top priorities. … [L]aw enforcement works best when federal, state, and local partners work together to vigorously enforce the law and to target violent offenders.”—Deputy Attorney General Rosen
@WFULawSchool “Unfortunately, a dangerous trend is emerging… a small but increasing number of state and local district attorneys have vowed not to enforce entire categories of core criminal offenses as part of a misguided experiment in social justice reform.”—Deputy Attorney General Rosen
@WFULawSchool “No society can have justice when stealing has been effectively licensed, open-air drug markets are allowed to flourish, and neither victims nor police officers can trust that those who break the law will be held accountable.”—Deputy Attorney General Rosen
@WFULawSchool “By refusing to prosecute broad swaths of core criminal offenses, these social-reform DAs are ignoring duly-enacted laws in favor of their own personal notions of what they think the law should be.”—Deputy Attorney General Rosen
@WFULawSchool “Another real tragedy of the social reform DAs’ non-prosecution strategy is a lack of respect for victims. The refusal to enforce entire categories of criminal laws ignores the often tragic harm that is exacted upon innocent victims.”—Deputy Attorney General Rosen
@WFULawSchool “Victims deserve better. They deserve public officials who will consider the individual circumstances of their case and seek real justice in accord with the laws that are on the books.”—Deputy Attorney General Rosen
Today, Attorney General Garland convened a meeting of the Election Threats Task Force, underscoring the Department’s #ElectionSecurity efforts to safeguard election workers - whether elected, appointed, or volunteer - from threats and intimidation.
“Each of these cases should serve as a warning: If you threaten to harm or kill an election worker, volunteer, or official, the Justice Department will find you. And we will hold you accountable.” – Attorney General Garland
“Together, we promise that the Justice Department will be relentless in defending the right to vote - and in defending the safety of the public servants who make voting possible.” – Attorney General Garland
“Our first priority has been - & will continue to be - individual accountability. Companies can only act through individuals. The rule of law demands that those most culpable for a company’s misconduct are the ones being charged, prosecuted, & convicted.” – Deputy AG Monaco
On consequences for corporate recidivists: “Penalties exist to deter future misconduct. They’re not the cost of doing business. So, when a company breaks the law again - & it’s clear the message wasn’t received - we need to ratchet up the sanctions.” – Deputy AG Monaco
Today, the Department of Justice, @HHSgov, @USDA, @usedgov, @DHSgov, @HUDgov, @USDOL, @DeptVetAffairs & @USAID finalized a rule that restores important religious liberty protections for beneficiaries of federally funded social services. hhs.gov/about/news/202…
@HHSGov @USDA @usedgov @DHSgov @HUDgov @USDOL @DeptVetAffairs @USAID The rule will protect beneficiaries by:
✔️ Requiring federal grantees that administer social service programs within the U.S. to notify beneficiaries of their right to be free from religious discrimination and providing a model notice for providers’ use.
✔️ Making clear that all covered social service programs - both those supported by vouchers and by grants - may not discriminate against beneficiaries based on their religion.
Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco spoke at the Munich Cyber Security Conference about prioritizing cyber disruptions and placing victims first. #MCSC2024
“We have directed our prosecutors to look across their investigations and at every single time ask can I take a disruptive action? Can I prevent the next victim? Can I help use our tools in ways that are new and creative?" - Deputy AG Monaco
"For instance, follow that money, track it through the blockchain, get it back and provide it to the victims as we did in the Colonial pipeline case. Think in new ways about how we can use very traditional tools, like warrants, as we did in the HIVE operation." - Deputy AG Monaco

The board will promote use of AI in a manner that is “ethical and responsible and will advance information sharing across the department regarding emerging technology-related best practices and use cases.”
Deputy AG Monaco also noted that the risks and rewards posed by AI are some of the “most important issues we face in law enforcement, national security and the protection of our privacy, civil rights and civil liberties.”
