Happy Veterans Day to my father, Kingsley Kan, who served in the US Army in Vietnam. He was stationed in Dau Tiang in ‘68 where they were under bombardment over 280 days in a single year.
When I was growing up and I told kids that my dad fought in Vietnam, I’d get asked “what side?”

My family’s from America, bitch. My dad has a Bronze Star for his service and Purple Heart for the mortar shrapnel he took to the head.
My grandmother (born in Ellensburg, WA) worked as an air raid spotter in the Pacific Northwest during WW II. My uncles served in the Navy and the Air Force. My cousin served as a career Naval officer and sub commander.
Shoutout today to all US military veterans who have served this country faithfully, regardless of their ethnicity, creed or any other axis along which we might divide ourselves.
