Thanks to @telanon finding a nice test ground, providing test equipment and convincing Sir Steady to volunteer himself as a test subject.

We'll try to test how AP avoids obstacles and pedestrians which was a hot topic of debate recently. The results are controversial
For those in the ADAS camp the safety features are mostly good in particular, for those in the totally anti-AP camp, there's going to be many interesting moments too I am sure.

Tested on 19.40.1.1 firmware (latest public ATM)
We'll start with the ideal case. Car on AP, driving steadily when we encounter pedestrian firmly in our way.
We can see him from far away so we gracefully slow down, just like a real human! Perfect score! This happened 3 times out of 4.
So you might wonder what happened that one other time? Well Autopilot failed horrifically, or did it? Tesla naming is confusing. And Sir Stead was unhurt, so everything was fine right?
Anyway, check the video:
Now if you pay attention, you will notice that it's the "I'm your driver that you need to monitor like I'm 2 year old" failed, it approached the brave knight waaay too fast, so fast, another safety feature, AEB decided that this is no good, kicked AP from controls and took over
If we watch this from AP view, we get to see that this time Sir Steady was not seen as a pedestrian until sort of late. The silver lining is AEB can stop the car pretty fast, certainly beyond what's in the manual (no driver intervention - car stopped all by itself)
Now let's make the task harder and move Sir Stead to the side.

Somewhat surprisingly the AP beeps, but still hits him and then tries to run away! ("hit-and-run mode").

Only upon rewatch I realized that autosteer aborted all by itself shortly before impact and TACC tried to run
This happened 4 out of 4 times. Let's examine the metadata.
Here we see that the lane positioning is all wrong even while we can see him firmly in our lane. Also radar-vision fusion happened later than expected.

This somewhat confirms AP tendency to misjudge offset objects
I saw it before on cars partially in line and bicyclists jus at the edge of a lane and now the same thing here, even while some of the logic clearly marks it as "obstacle", it's ignored because... wrong lane?
After pondering this for some time we added some more complications. What if we just had a a couple of foil-lined boxes? That way radar would see them as an obstacle and the car would surely avoid it, right? Well, not so fast!

It did emit the "I am unsure, show me the way!" beep
dang, accidentally pressed "post before finishing" be patient and don't look and comment yet!!! ;)

Impressions after nearly 600 miles on 11.4.3 with Elon mode (could not get a non-Tesla car to try in time).
It went much better than the prior experiment obviously.
Many contributing factors. I was not as late so I did not mind as much (still ended up 5 minutes late solely
because of FSD foolishness).
So I was more tolerant towards the constant flow of cars passing me on the right and merging in front of me.
It also helped that I did not need to watch for the dreaded nag.
Overall I spent a bunch of time thinking about it and came up with this:
If the car did not need my attention - I'd just plan for late arrival as much as possible and don't care of many of the current very annoying deficiencies.

So I decided to look into how Tesla does alternate routes (I know, late) fully expecting to see they just get a few alternatives from Google and that's it and... nope, there's nothing like it!
Instead they grab a route from google (if online nvigation enabled), and then feed that into tesla maps service (in the cloud). And that maps service returns possible alternatives (deduced by unknwon means). But that's not all!
A lot more interesting is that in addition to that they also query that service for "what are the parking lot outline at my location" and "hey, for this route I have, what else do I need to know".

Now that HW4 is widely available I got some firmware samples and discovered that:
The shipping version is internally called 2-SOC and has two possible camera layouts. The current one or the expanded one with added surround view cams (front bumper and two more)
The cameras run at 2880x1876 and run at( up to?) 45fps.
The main and backup cameras differs from the rest of them (and main and backup are a bit different too). vendor TBD.

new GNSS is Teseo V based.

Radar is confirmed ethernet or 192.168.90.110 internal IP.
But a lot more interesting is the 3-SOC version that seems to be up and coming? The camera layouts for that remain same though some internal deserializing routing differs.
There was a rumor that with the GPU in place heat output increased and HW4 was curtailed, so may be this is

I am sure you are all eager to know more about HW4, so I am going to show you the refreshed car computer from a Model X. Just don't tell anybody you saw it, because it's really a secret still.
This unit made appearance at the EPC about a month ago, but the picture was hidden.
Looks like Tesla started to build cars with it but does not deliver them yet, I imagine the plan is to announce on March 1st that all cars off the line are already having it.
To start with sorta bad news, The form-factor is totally different, so definitely no retrofits on this one.

- Media Player accounts (e.g. Spotify lgn) are now linked to your driver profile (Not in China)
- (some) Model 3/Y in NA: Blended brakes (Your vehicle can now automatically apply regular brakes for consistent deceleration when regenerative braking)
- Energy prediction for your route has been improved by incorporating forecasted crosswind, headwind, humidity and ambient temperature when using online navigation.
(only in places with weather forecast (aka China?))
- China-only - Tesla Mic improvements.
Looks like the remote camera view is there for legacy s/x (not sure if activated yet)
Seemingly support for BT controllers is in the wings too
