I report what I see. If it's good, it's good; if it's bad, it's bad. Does not depend on me. Make them release more awesome stuff. Don't shoot the messenger.

Impressions after nearly 600 miles on 11.4.3 with Elon mode (could not get a non-Tesla car to try in time).
It went much better than the prior experiment obviously.
Many contributing factors. I was not as late so I did not mind as much (still ended up 5 minutes late solely
because of FSD foolishness).
So I was more tolerant towards the constant flow of cars passing me on the right and merging in front of me.
It also helped that I did not need to watch for the dreaded nag.
Overall I spent a bunch of time thinking about it and came up with this:

Paging all hw4 radar deniers, I guess.
What is the first thing you do when you get a HW4 car? You take it apart of course

So I decided to look into how Tesla does alternate routes (I know, late) fully expecting to see they just get a few alternatives from Google and that's it and... nope, there's nothing like it!
Instead they grab a route from google (if online nvigation enabled), and then feed that into tesla maps service (in the cloud). And that maps service returns possible alternatives (deduced by unknwon means). But that's not all!

Now that HW4 is widely available I got some firmware samples and discovered that:
The shipping version is internally called 2-SOC and has two possible camera layouts. The current one or the expanded one with added surround view cams (front bumper and two more)
The cameras run at 2880x1876 and run at( up to?) 45fps.
The main and backup cameras differs from the rest of them (and main and backup are a bit different too). vendor TBD.
new GNSS is Teseo V based.
Radar is confirmed ethernet or 192.168.90.110 internal IP.

I am sure you are all eager to know more about HW4, so I am going to show you the refreshed car computer from a Model X. Just don't tell anybody you saw it, because it's really a secret still.
This unit made appearance at the EPC about a month ago, but the picture was hidden.
Looks like Tesla started to build cars with it but does not deliver them yet, I imagine the plan is to announce on March 1st that all cars off the line are already having it.

2022.16.0.2 #TeslaReleaseNotes:
- Media Player accounts (e.g. Spotify lgn) are now linked to your driver profile (Not in China)
- (some) Model 3/Y in NA: Blended brakes (Your vehicle can now automatically apply regular brakes for consistent deceleration when regenerative braking)
- Energy prediction for your route has been improved by incorporating forecasted crosswind, headwind, humidity and ambient temperature when using online navigation.
(only in places with weather forecast (aka China?))
- China-only - Tesla Mic improvements.

Looks like Model Y heat pumps are seizing en-masse in Russia as well. This is how it looks like:
(in the video they just count start attempts), video credit to some Russian Tesla owners group
When you take the compressor apart you see this
I tried to find a teradown of a working unit, but only can see the outsides of it by Munro. Anybody can link me to the inside views?
This is on AP (NoA, really), 75 mph into a truck, no braking, no warnings of any kind.
The firmware is 2021.4.18.2, accident in June 2021.
radar-equipped car (but hw2.5 of course)
the truck was seen by both the radar and also could be clearly observed by the narrow camera from quite a distance away (pictures are spaced 1 second apart)

USB drive was recovered from this car showing the fire started in the house before jumping to Tesla just as was mostly evident from the outside video
Interesting that (I presume) the owner was in the car and saw everything, escaping out (the car was plugged so cannot even drive it until unplugging.

Holiday weekends are great for some fun are not they?
Worked with @rice_fry on the Tesla depth perception NN.
Remember that stuff in ?
Well, the cars actually have a depth perceiving net inside indeed. though unlike what's shown it's a lot lower res
A whopping 160x120 grid (so 1/8th of the native camera resolution) but hey those are actual 3D points in space. I don't know how to make a 3D video, so just visualizing "distance" as "brighter = closer" on the scale of 5 to 62 meters (the actual limit of the output):

So in regards to the recent Chinese crash with video where AP exits roadway in sharp turns:
I long planned to do a demo of a similar condition but always forgot and I guess better late than never.
It's actually really easy to reproduce m.weibo.cn/status/4655186…
Find an (empty!) road with a sharp curve and point autopilot at it. For most safety ensure there's an extra space outside the curve so you can catch the car before it crashes into stuff and boom!
(this is 2021.4.18.3 btw)
Remember to always pay attention when on AP!

Some more fun with radar-less Model Y (thanks @spleck)
First we laced a brown box with foil (for great radar response) and tested my model X on it (FW 2021.4.18)
It rammed it like nothing, but we did get an FCW.
Internal telemetry view (no radar overlaid because it makes the picture too busy)

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be good for a couple gazillions.
With all the debates about how suitable @Tesla cabin cam for driver monitoring, I will let you form your own opinion.
It does look like "full color" RGB based on the red elements
@rice_fry
I was a bit surprised that in a city at night there's enough environment lighting to make DM seem very workable.
All these videos are full resolution, 36 fps as Tesla uses them.

With all the brouhaha about Ford Mach-E, I decided to test-drive one.
Local Ford dealer had one in stock even (Ford >> Audi)
I got a salesperson that was first time in the car so we had to use manual a lot (Tesla >> Ford)
Manual depiction of UI does not match the actual UI 🤷♂️
The good:
I feel like it's ready to replace model 3/Y If you don't need to ever drive outside the city you live in.
Not as fast as a Tesla but plenty enough for light-to-light hopping.
Has wifi hotspot built-in ($$$)
Bird-eye view that actually works and turns on as you approach

If Tesla was a REAL software company, after you press that "YES" dialog button about "This is beta, blah blah, I understand what I am doing and will keep both pieces if it breaks" setting windows become accessible
A lot of settings...

Some seriously cool and very practical information Esp. for the tinkering types.
@Tesla now gives access to repair manuals, service information, vehicle diagnostic (remote in EU) and such.
For free!
I was told it's not a bug.
Seriously step in the right direction!
go to service.tesla.cn and then you create account with country set to China and access level: diagnostic + software.
in second screen fill in some extra details like this:

2020.48.5 is rolling out.
Junction mode for improved navigation, but only for China now. Needs new maps.
In Canada running a red light/stop sign warning on hw2.x
Blinking taillight on strong braking on model 3/Y in China.
Text messages improvements.
Weird new chargeport cable unlatch S/X button??
QQ music improvements (China)
Trax v0.2
on-board storage of "panic" sentry events even if no usb plugged (finally!)

(Not to distract too much from the FSD limited rollout too much)
Some people believe nowadays Tesla only lets me see things they want me to see. Let's assume this is true and so this is an authorized information disbursement.
99% based on information Tesla let me see.
All the Model3 refresh stuff: new interior (including the top console that nobody noted somehow), heated steering wheel, efficiency package M3 2021 and M3 SR+ 2020Q4 Shanghai (this one is believed to be LiFe batteries?), heated radar, usb-c in glove box, powered liftgate

A financial diversion for this Sunday. In the EAP comments many highlighted how "showing profit" is important for "S&P inclusion".
Now I am not a financial person and don't even play one on TV so I asked them how is the S&P inclusion important and got answers that don't add up
hopefully some actually smart and financially smart people can explain to me all of this?
namely Why S&P inclusion is important and good for both Tesla and shareholders.
I'll start with what I learned so far and what I think the holes in the logic are
In no particular order:

So apparently H in TESLA stands for Honesty and I is for Integrity.
I got a "lease balance" bill on June 13th that amongst other things billed me $1064 for excess mileage, $1200 for "excess wear and tear", $395 disposition fee, some taxes and so on (don't have a picture handy)
This was sort of surprising since I 1. returned the lease on March 20 (so 3 months/12 weeks ago) 2. it was inspected on the spot by Tesla and declared in good condition 3. I was told that nothing is due and even signed some paper to that effect (somehow forgot to take a picture)

As more and more people have their premium connectivity trial expiring, I keep getting this question about how to make hotspots more tolerable and make wifi stay on even as you shift into gear.
What many don't know is in the past there was a special "tether" flag on a wifi AP,
It would be set on any AP that you would "forcefully" connect to after shifting into gear and then enabling wifi.
Wifi would stay on if connected to such AP
Then it all stopped working sparking theories from people that knew about it if it was deliberate.
