GREAT WOMEN OF ISLAM: 🕊✨

Here’s a thread on some of the great women of Islam (that I’ll keep adding to). Truly these are the only women we should take as role models. Maybe there is one in particular you can relate to! May Allah be pleased with them all.

1. Summaya bint Khayyat ✨
The 1st woman to die for Islam.
An African woman, among the first to accept Islam. She stood against the Meccans & was subjected to cruel treatment but even when witnessing her husband die, didn’t revoke her shahada. She was a brave, courageous woman.
2. Rufaida Al Aslamia ✨
The 1st surgeon in Islam.
Among the first to accept Islam in madina. During battles including badr & uhud, the prophet (pbuh) would obstruct the wounded to be treated by her. She is believed to the founder of nursing in the Muslim world. Truly inspiring!
3. Nusaybah bint kaab ✨
The 1st female warrior of Islam.
She took part in several battles including the battle of uhud, in which she defended the prophet (pbuh). Her courage was so immense the prophet (pbuh) said “from where can anyone can get courage like you?”

4. Maryam (RA) ✨
Mother of Isa (AS)
Chosen by Allah, known for her piety and chastity. A surah is named after her. “& Mary, the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity.. and she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.” [66:12]
5. Aisha (RA) ✨
Beloved wife of the prophet (pbuh).
Narrated over 2,000 hadiths. Known for her generosity & simple lifestyle. Present in battles & gave political advice.
‘I came to the Prophet SAW and said, “Who is the most beloved person to you?” He said, “Aisha.” ‘ [Bukhari]
6. Safiya bint Abdul Muttalib ✨
Paternal aunt of the prophet (pbuh).
A brave & fierce woman.
She protected the fortress of women & showed women that they should know how to protect themselves in the absence of men. Cunning, brave & strong with military knowledge.
7. Khansa bint Amr ✨
The female poet the Prophet (pbuh) praised. She embraced Islam when it was revealed. Scholars of poetry agree that no other woman has ever attained the level of poetry she recited, not before nor after her. Present in battle. She was beautiful & eloquent.
8. Khadija (RA) ✨
First person to embrace Islam. Beloved wife of the prophet (pbuh) who comforted him. A successful business woman who invested her worldly riches on the poor. A pious, modest & courageous woman. She sacrificed all her wealth and time into the service of Islam.
9. Umm Sulaym ✨
One of the first woman of Yathrib to accept Islam. Mother of Anas ibn Malik, one of the great companions of the Prophet (pbuh). Devoted to her son & his upbringing, educating him. Known for her excellent character, intellect & independent attitude.
10. Asiyah (RA) ✨
Wife of the Pharoah. She was tortured for her submission to Allah but still remained devout to Allah. She was a queen who could have had all the worldly desires but gave that up to seek Allahs mercy. What an inspiration of a woman!
11. Fatima (RA) ✨
Beloved Daughter of the prophet (pbuh), who said, “Fatima is a part of me, and he who makes her angry, makes me angry." [bukhari]
She teaches us about the importance of charity, reminding patient, honesty & praying for others. The head of the women in paradise.
12. Faatimah Bint Asad ✨
Guardian of the Prophet (pbuh).
Described as humble & intelligent in nature. She took great care of the prophet (pbuh) with love & affection. She was an influential and competent mother who played a vital role in both her family and society.
13. Asma bint yazid ✨
A narrater of Hadīth. She would ask the prophet (pbuh) about matters concerning women. She was outspoken & highly expressive. She belonged to a family of brave fighters. In the Battle of Yarmūk, she killed nine Byzantine soldiers with the pole of her tent.
14. Hafsah Bint ‘Umar ✨
One of the wives of the prophet (pbuh). An extremely pious woman, spending her time in prayer & fasting. She was devoted to learning the literary arts. Segments of the earliest manuscript of the Quran were in her possession when she passed.
15. Khawlar bint Al-Azad ✨
Described as one of the greatest female leaders in history & compared to Khalid bin Waleed (RA) in battle.
During one, she was tending as a nurse until she heard her brother had been captured so put on armour & stormed onto the battlefield to save him
16. Zunairah al-Rumiya ✨
A companion of the prophet (pbuh).
She was amongst the 1st to embrace Islam in Mecca & was beaten for this but still remained devout. She was a slave who was freed by Abu bakr, who also freed her companion in slavery, lubaynah.
17. Umm Ayman ✨
The Prophet (pbuh) held her in high esteem. The 1st to hold him in her arms when he was born & the only one who knew him from then until he passed. One of the few Muslims who the Prophet (pbuh) guaranteed a place in Paradise for. A beautiful African muslimah.
18. Al-Nahdia ✨
One of the companions of the prophet (pbuh). A slave who was freed by Abu bakr (RA). Her & her mother later joined the migration to Medina.
19. Juwairiyah bint Harith ✨
A wife of the prophet (pbuh).
A devout, pious muslimah who captivated others. Aisha (RA) said, “I knew of no other woman who brought greater blessing to her people than Juwayriyah.. “
this is because her whole tribe became Muslim after her!
20. Bareerah ✨
She was a slave who was freed by Aisha (RA). She was very unhappy in her marriage thus left her husband upon being freed, the prophet (pbuh) respected her decision. She went to become a scholar & taught others about Islam until she passed away!
21. Hind bint Utbah ✨
A strong minded woman who at 1st had deep hatred for Muslims, fighting them in battle. But she then softened towards Islam. In the Battle of Yarmuk, Muslims defeated their opposition due to courageous women like herself who fought whilst some men ran away!
22. Shifaa bint Abdullah ✨
Possibly the 1st Muslim woman to hold office, public administrator during Umar RA being caliph. Real name was Laylah, but she was called Al-Shifa due to her skill in healing. She was also appointed as a policewoman of the entire marketplace in Madinah.
23. Umm Mihjan ✨
The voluntary caretaker of the Prophet’s (pbuh) mosque during his time, a female of African descent. She ensured that his mosque was maintained, kept clean and tidy at all times. She was honoured for her work by the prophet (pbuh).
What an honourable role!
24. Umm al-Darda ✨
This woman was a prominent female scholar & jurist of Islam in the 7th century. Her class was attended by both men & women, not to mention Imams, jurists & Hadith scholars!
25. Umm Haram ✨
Female companion of the prophet (pbuh) who travelled as far as Cyprus. She is the sister of Umm sulaym. She participated in the 1st sea battle for the control of Cyprus during the period of Uthman. A devout woman, who passed away in Cyprus & is buried there!
26. Al-Rabi’ bint Ma’uwth ✨
A woman known for her mature understanding & for being farsighted & quick-witted. A woman who has been assured a place in paradise. She used to serve the Prophet's favorite dishes when he visited her house. Also, 1st woman in Islam to ask for Khula.
27. Umm Salit ✨
“Um Salit was amongst those Ansari women who had given the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) .

`Umar added, "She (i.e. Um Salit) used to carry the filled water skins for us on the day of the battle of Uhud."

28. Fatima Al-Fihri ✨
She founded the worlds first ever university based in fes, Morocco of which has educated 100’s of thousands of students! Started off as a masjid & expanded into a university!
29. Atiqa bint Zayd ✨
A companion of the prophet (pbuh).
She was a great poet & at one point the wife of Umar bin Al-Khattab (RA). Notable for having married men who died as shahids.
30. Fatima al-Batayahiyyah ✨
A scholar in the 8th century. She taught Hadith & jurisprudence in the Damascus & was so sought after that when she grew old she retired in Madinah & taught from the prophets (pbuh) mosque itself.
31. Umm Rooman ✨
Wife of Abu bakr & mother to A’isha. (May Allah be pleased with them)
She accepted Islam in its earliest days. She spent her nights & days in prayer. She was greatly respected by the prophet (pbuh). Known as a patient & tolerant lady.
32. Faree'ah bint Malik ✨
The daughter of a great companion of the prophet (pbuh), with a great memory & was greatly respected. The Prophet (pbuh) said:
"Whosoever participated in the Pledge of Rizwan, are the holders of Paradise." She participated, so she is a lady of Paradise.
33. Zainab bint Ali ✨
The granddaughter of the prophet (pbuh). A woman of courage & great bravery. She used to teach Quran to other women. After the martyrdom of her family, she was the one to support other family members.
34. Hammanah bint Jahsh ✨

She was a companion of the prophet (pbuh). During the battle of uhud, she was one of the women who nursed the wounded & provided water to the thirsty.
She later married Talhah (ra), 1 of the 10 companions to get the glad tidings of paradise.
35. Umm Abu Hurayrah ✨
Although her son had accepted Islam, she continued to be a disbeliever. One day she said something against the prophet (pbuh). Abu hurayrah (Ra), deeply hurt, asked the prophet (pbuh) to pray that her heart changes. Following this, she embraced Islam!
36. Sauda (RA) ✨
A Wife of the prophet (pbuh).
She is said to have a good sense of humour, at times she walked in such a way that the prophet (pbuh) was amused. In generosity, she was above all the wives except Aisha (ra). She was compassionate, obedient, loving & kind.
37. Maimunah (RA) ✨
A wife of the prophet (pbuh).
A vibrant/intelligent woman who authored as many as 46 ahadith. Aisha (RA) praised her character & dedication to Allah SWT. A woman of charity who freed slaves & tended to the poor, through her actions many muslims followed.
