At the new Out-of-the-Cold shelter in #Fredericton -which opened Monday night.

The building will become affordable housing units after its use as a shelter. @CTVAtlantic Image
It will be open 7 days a week, co-ed, and welcomes pets.

On Monday: 20 people stayed here
Tuesday: 14.

They don’t need anymore physical donations but are still accepting monetary donations!
There are 30 beds, and right now, it’s aim is to be a winter only shelter.

Last year, the Department says it was able to get 60 people in the Fredericton area permanently off the streets.

Insp. Kimberly Quartermain, a critical incident commander, says it was a male who was barricaded today in his own home, but voluntarily left around 3:40 today.

@CTVAtlantic
It was a neighbour who contacted the police. They saw a male with a firearm. Not sure if it was outside or inside the residence. The male is 28 years old, and police “have had previous contact” with him.
Police are aware of two long guns, a bullet proof vest and knives in the residence. The residence is still being secured. No shots were fired.

I'm back in court this afternoon for the Matthew Raymond trial -
Jury is in the room, cross examination has continued of Alex Pate. The Crown is asking about prior interviews/court appearances where Raymond was upset, spoke out, and in some cases, yelled during a proceeding.
We're listening to another audio recording, from June 18, 2019.

Justice Ferguson is explaining to Raymond that what he says in the courtroom can be used as evidence. Raymond says he has been asking to speak to his lawyer.
Crown completes its questions.
Defence begins again.

Back from lunch.
Jury is in the room.

Brother-in-law is still on the stand.
We can identify him only as Jeffrey because of a publication ban.

He says he recalls Raymond talking about the earth being flat and conspiracies that high-level government workers ran the world.
"When we came in he always told us to turn our phones off or put them in the truck off the car...I told him no one's listening to him, no one cares...he just had it in his head that he knew things."

In court for the Matthew Raymond trial. Jury is in the room.

Alex Pate will not be on the stand this morning. Instead, family members of Raymond’s are taking the stand. @CTVAtlantic
First, Raymond’s sister. She’s the youngest of three siblings, Raymond is the oldest. The middle brother is in Victoria.
She’s audibly and visibly nervous on the stand. There is a publication ban on her last name.

We’ve resumed testimony in the trial of Matthew Vincent Raymond.

Brendan Doyle has been excused.

Crown has now called Justin McLean to the stand.
McLean says he lived at 237 Brookside Dr. He says he was waking up to go to work on the morning of August 10.

“I woke up to the sound of gunshots.”
McLean is being shown an aerial photo of 237 Brookside.

He’s asked which building and where his unit was.

Says he was in the basement of one of the buildings. He looked out the window:

“I saw a police officer with a gun pointed upwards.”

Court has resumed this morning for the trial of Matthew Vincent Raymond.

I feel I should say, some of what I’ll be tweeting over this trial will be difficult to read and potentially triggering. Please keep that in mind if you’re following along. (File photo)

“We didn’t know what we were going in for...”

A paramedic who responded August 10/2018 is the first to take the stand this morning. She says at about 10:30 this morning “things actually started happening.”
She describes learning that her ambulance would be transporting the suspect to hospital. It was her second day on the ambulance.

“I was only in charge of taking vitals...and then they started...doing their head to toe assessment.”

“He was very coherent, very calm.”
