THREAD: The Quran’s cosmological argument for god. (Reductio ad absurdum) Image
1. The Quran presents a clear argument for the existence of God through reductio ad absurdum, which is the validation of a claim based on the absurdity or impossibility of all the other options/scenarios.
2. Surah At Tur verses 35-36 read: “Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators (of themselves), Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.”
3. From this, we can clearly see set out possibilities for the source of our existence. 1. Created by nothing 2. Self-created. 3. Created by something created. 4. Created by something uncreated.
4. “Created by nothing”. This state of affairs is not possible. Nothing is the absence of all things. Nothingness can not produce anything. 0+0 can never equal 1. Without potential, matter, energy, it is impossible for anything to form.
5. Hence, it could not be the case that the universe appeared from nothing without any reason, purpose, or force to inject it with its energy and direction.
6. “Self-created”. This is another logically impossible state of affairs. This is because it implies that something was in a state of existence and non-existence at the same time. To say something created itself means it was in existence before its creation which is illogical.
7. “Created by something created”. If the universe was created by something created, and that created creator would be created by another created creator, and so on, it would lead to an infinite regress of created creators, which is an impossibility.
8. An infinite regress is a logical impossibility, as if there is an infinite chain of creators, then there would be no creation at all, as there would be no first creator to kick off the chain.
9. Having ruled out the first 3 options as impossibilities and absurdities, we are left with “Created by something uncreated”. A first uncaused cause that is uncreated and eternal.
10. Essentially, something must have always existed, and since the universe is physical, finite and began, it must be the creator of the universe.
11. We have reached the point of an uncaused cause, and uncreated creator, now to show how this is god, we must look at the essential attributes of this creator.
12. We have already established that the creator must be eternal, therefore without beginning. Secondly, the creator cannot be a part of his creation, as a creator is distinct from what he created. This creator is therefore transcendent.
13. Something eternal cannot have finite or limited properties, hence the creator cannot be part of his creation.
14. The creator must possess power in order to create the universe. The universe contains energy, hence power is needed to generate/create such energy.
15. This uncreated creator must have knowledge because the universe that He created has established laws. These include the law of gravity, the weak and strong nuclear force, and the electromagnetic force. These laws imply there is a lawgiver, and a lawgiver implies knowledge.
16. The creator must have a will, as for an eternal being to bring about a finite universe, there must be a choice made choosing existence over non-existence of the universe. Also, humans have a will, and a creator cannot create something that it does not possess.

This thread will compare some legal rights in Islam, revealed 1400 years ago in the 7th century AD, to their development in British modern history.
1. A)Property: In the UK, before the Married Women’s Property Act 1882, common law doctrine viewed husband and wife as one person; who was the husband, so a woman's pre-marital property became the husband’s and so did post-marital property and her earnings also became his.
