THREAD: Al Juwayni's proof of the will of the creator.

1. Once having established the temporality of the world and the commencement of its existence, it follows that the temporally produced is that whose existence and annihilation are both possible.

2. And every moment of time in which its occurrence might happen was but one of the possibilities in other moments that preceded this one.

3. If the possible existence occurs instead of the continuation of the also possible non-existence, the mind instinctively decides that this requires a particularizing factor that specifies it with this eventuality.

4. That is clear of necessity and requires neither the investigation of postulates nor a commitment to a program of reasoning.

5. Once this is clear, the particularizing agent must either be an agent that necessarily makes the temporal happen in the same manner by which the cause necessarily produces its effect, or a natural physical force as the the naturalists hold, or it must be a free agent.

6. It is wrong to follow the rule for causes since a cause necessarily causes its effect simultaneously. If the determinant were assumed to be a cause it must then either be eternal or contingent. If it was eternal, it would necessarily cause the world to exist timelessly as well

7. Whereas we have established the proofs of its temporality. If the determinant was temporally produced, that requires and leads to an unending chain of claims about a determining agent for the determining agent.

8. Those who insist that the determinant is physical in nature are quite preposterous in making such a claim because nature causes its effects necessarily if and when any impediments are removed.

9. If nature were eternal, that would entail the eternity of the world, and if it were temporally produced there would have to be a determining agent. This assessment suffices to discredit these people.

10. Thus, if it is false that the determinant of the temporal was a cause that necessitated it, or that nature involuntarily in of itself brought it to being,..

11. ..it becomes clear conclusively, that the determinant of temporal things is an agent that acts to produce them by free choice and specifies their occurrence with certain attributes at specific times.

12. Hence, once having grasped the temporality of the world and understood clearly that it has a Maker, the intelligent person must thereafter reflect and take cognizance of the attributes that must be applied to God, the Exalted, and the will has been established.
