The Colin Trevorrow's script for #StarWars IX (Star Wars : #DuelOfTheFates) has seemingly leaked online !
I really don't believe this is true but I gathered the informations on a thread here ('cause why not) :
The First Order has cut off all communication between planets to suppress a rising rebellion inspired by Luke Skywalker’s stand at the Battle of Crait. In the crawl, the audience is told the Resistance’s mission is to re-open communication and call the galaxy to war.
In the opening sequence of the movie the Resistance (Finn, Rose, and BB8) steals a Star Destroyer full of old Imperial weapons and vehicles, and during this heist, Finn sees a fallen Stormtrooper without his helmet on, and recognizes him.
Rather than being sidelined, Rose got to headline a subplot alongside Finn (further developing their dynamic from Last Jedi) where the two travel to Coruscant (!) and activate a beacon at the old Jedi Temple (!) so they can rally people to the Resistance's cause.
Cut to different places around the galaxy receiving the signal (Bossk cameo). Finn eventually ends up leading an army of reformed stormtroopers who defected from the First Order (like himself) in a battle for Coruscant.
Emperor #Palpatine is another notable difference between the two versions. Because he isn't in Duel of the Fates ! Instead, Kylo Ren was Duel of the Fates main villain (continuing his arc from TLJ). Rey still felt it was possible for Ben Solo to come back to the light.
#Rey is off with #PoeDameron on another mission (and has a double-bladed lightsaber like Darth Maul’s weapon) believing there is still good in Kylo Ren, (naturally) and both of them seemingly trying to end the Jedi and Sith—picking up where the ‘Last Jedi’ left off.
Knights of Ren show up and fight Rey in a lightsaber battle. She defeats them...
As in Abrams’s version, Kylo Ren travels to Mustafar, but Trevorrow’s script actually follows him there and shows the audience what he’s been up to.
Rey tries to figure out if she’s worthy of being a Jedi or if Jedi should even be a thing anymore.
While Kylo searches Mustafar for a Sith “holocron” he’s tormented by the Force ghost of #LukeSkywalker, who taunts him with lines like, “This is where the dark path leads: an empty tomb.”
#KyloRen tracks down Tor Valum, who turns out to be a 7,000-year-old (extremely Adam Driver voice) ghoul described as “Lovecraftian” in appearance !
Kylo Ren trains with Tor Valum, confronts a Darth Vader phantom and loses (ode to The Empire Strikes Back Cave scene). There’s also a cool bit somewhere in there where the holocron wounds Kylo’s face, which is repaired with smelted Mandalorian (!) armor.
The final ground battle was led by #Finn and the reformed Stormtroopers on the streets of Coruscant, attacking the First Order Ship that hovers over the city.
The Resistance joins in with stolen fighters and vehicles painted with their own revolutionary colors. There is a simultaneous air battle, led by General Poe Dameron.
As many fans speculated/hoped, this iteration of Episode IX would have seen Rey and Kylo working from similar motives, with both characters fighting against the binary ideologies that have governed their world for ages.
Both Rey and Kylo eventually get to Mortis at one point !
During the pair's climactic showdown, Luke, #ObiWan, and #Yoda's Force ghosts assisted Rey and tried to redeem Ben, but were unsuccessful. Another interesting aspect of Rey's Duel of the Fates story is it's revealed Kylo killed her parents.
The last beat of the film connected to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” with Finn and #RoseTico taking all the Force-sensitive youth to a remote planet so Rey can train the next generation of Jedi.
There are several other key points, including Chewbacca flying an X-Wing and a droid described as being similar in appearance to Darth Maul.
#StarWars : Duel of the Fates concept art, a thread :
This concept art from Colin Trevorrow’s #DuelOftTheFates showing #Rey wearing a similar outfit to Luke in Return of the Jedi and wielding a hybrid of her staff and Skywalker’s blue lightsaber on a Star Destroyer !
