Responsible gun owners don't threaten civil war at the idea of gun control legislation, don't threaten to harm/shoot/lynch legislators whom they disagree with and don't encourage others to act in such a manner.
Dottie complains about death threats yet supports others that do.
On a day that we *should* be honoring the historical efforts to bring peace and justice to African Americans through PEACEFUL PROTEST in the U.S. we have a legislator with her eyes on promoting violence, dissent and even hate groups descending upon Virginia's State Capitol today.
A few facts:
• Americans make up 4 percent of the world's population but own about *46 percent* of the entire global stock of 857 million civilian firearms.
• American civilians own more guns than those held by civilians in the other top 25 countries combined.
• American civilians own nearly 100 times as many firearms as the U.S. military and nearly 400 times as many as law enforcement.
• Between 2012 and 2017, U.S. civilians bought 135 million guns, 2 million more guns than the combined stockpile of all the world's armed forces.
Now- that's a whole lot of guns held by civilians. It seems like there isn't much "infringing" going on in America as it is.
Now- the question isn't about the gun but what the user intends to do with it.
Are you threatening civil war, to lynch politicians, to intimidate rivals?
Are you a Mo. State Legislator publicly supporting hate groups, supporting the kind of behavior that you accuse "looney lefties" of (which probably doesn't occur), perhaps having fantasies of engaging in armed conflict or "emptying your clip in an intruder before you call 911"?
Are you a Mo. State Legislator who owes her political career to being an entrenched part of the GOP supermajority in Mo. running in an historically "red" District in which there wasn't even a Dem challenger for years supported by the Party establishment and megadonor funds?
Let's celebrate the victories that the people of America have won not with violence but by being peaceful, patient and prayerful. Women's suffrage wasn't won with bullets- it was won with ballots and at great personal expense from nearly 100 years of efforts to make it happen.
Let's celebrate the example that Dr. Martin Luther King set to bring about positive change through peaceful means despite the difficulty in doing so.
Let's honor the memories of those that were willing to suffer and die for what they believe in WITHOUT HARMING OTHERS.
Let's pray for Virginia and America that these people who want to turn back the clocks of time and destroy our Country out of fear fear, hatred and ignorance will be blessed with insight, honor and true righteousness. That they will calm their anger and put down their weapons.
That Americans will work toward peaceful solutions to our disagreements and bury our past conflicts, injustices and missteps in order to Unite our Country- for United we Stand and Divided we will most surely fall.
Today *I* will honor MLK's memory by re-committing to fight for peace and justice for ALL Americans. To commit to protecting my family and working tirelessly to create a better life for our little ones that includes a more peaceful, prosperous and just America than we have today.
Fellow Democrats (and anyone else for that matter)- allowing politicians to waltz into office without opposition isn't good for anyone. Speaking for myself my political views are my own and align with Dems- who I believe are dedicated to advocating for *each and every* American.
Where there is no balance there is no Justice. Where there is no accountability there is dysfunction and chaos. NO public servant is above accountability to the voters that they serve. My State Rep threatens me, lies about me and refuses to answer questions about policy.
My State Rep accuses me of "begging for money" while she's funded by a handful of VERY wealthy individuals.
She received 29 donations in 2019 and her average donation was $543. She received *4* individual donations.
I received 316 donations of which 313 were individual donors.
It would be great to be able to report positive developments in Missouri and highlight actual progress for our schools, roads, businesses, jobs, rural communities, poverty, healthcare, LGBTQ rights, environmental protections, etc. but alas there are few- if any- bright spots.
Thank goodness for our Democrat Legislators who are committed to advocating for Missouri residents instead of a handful of wealthy folks, religious zealots and gun nuts. Feel free to worship as you like- just don't force your beliefs on me. Be a responsible gun owner- that's OK.
I believe that lawmakers' jobs are to help provide the infrastructure, supports, rules and regulations to make civil society possible and prosperous- no more, no less. To state that laws don't work because criminals don't follow laws is ridiculous. That's not how this works.
Dottie posted about her vote "opposing communism" again today.
Give me a break.
*Communist* China was MO's #1 foreign soybean market purchasing 1/3 of our soybeans. Trump's trade war killed that.
*Communist* China owns more skyrocketing US debt than any other foreign country.
The GOP's "Right to Farm" Amendment paved the way for *Communist* Chinese-owned corporate farms to operate freely in Missouri.
Donald Trump has called brutal *Communist* dictator Kim Jong Un a "friend" with a "great and beautiful vision for his country".
This:
"Chariman Kim has a great and beautiful vision for his country, and only the United States, with me as President, can make that vision come true. He will do the right thing because he is far too smart not to, and he does not want to disappoint his friend, President Trump!"
I was a foster advocate and provider for 12 years. We're now legal guardians for 4 kids in order to keep them safe and give them a chance to live their best life. Their parents failed them and the system failed (and continues to fail) them. THAT's why I'm running for office.
My wife and I have navigated the Court System, the Foster System, Behavioral Health, Law Enforcement, a wide variety of Service Providers, 504 plans, IEP's, public schools, Special School District and SSD schools, residential facilities, Vocational Rehab, Sheltered Workshop, etc.
I've seen and dealt with (and continue to deal with) people who have been BROKEN by abusers and their struggles as they try to survive on ever-diminishing resources in an already stressed and underfunded system. These people often never had a chance through no fault of their own.
