Thread. Nour Cash and Carry is a vital resource for the Brixton community. It sells a vast range of food at low prices, serving many immigrant + ethnic communities. Now the new Brixton markets landlord, Hendo Enterprises is trying to get them out. This mustn't happen. Pls RT 1/
Nour have been on their site for 20 years. Hendo Enterprises say they need to build a substation. I'm hearing Nour were offered a space in Brixton Village that a) hasn't been built yet b) is smaller c) is at a vastly increased rent d) on a relatively short lease 2/
Hendo say the electrics aren't good enough for what's in the covered market. They're clearly good enough at the moment; but perhaps not if you want to install a bunch of fancy restaurants with high spec kitchens, rather than have shops serving the community. 3/
Brixton is changing. Brixton has always changed (I've been here 30 yrs.) But change has to be managed carefully. New eateries and cafes can be great for the local economy, if they're of the right kind. But it can't be at the expense of shops serving the locals 4/
And however Brixton looks on a Friday night out, this remains an exceedingly mixed area, with many people on low incomes who depend on places like Nour. Hendo may seem themselves as a commercial landlord. They should see themselves as custodians of a neighbourhood. And... 5/
Bullying pre-existing businesses out of their sites is not a good look. If you want to help, they have set up a petition which you can sign in store. You could also RT this thread, and express your own dismay at the way Hendo is behaving. /ends
