25 years ago today, my debut album ‘Pre-Life Crisis’ was released. Recorded from January through March 1994 when I was 20 years old, the album would not be released until 18 months later.
I remember feeling I would get dropped and the album would be shelved. My goal after dropping out of college in May of 1992, was to get a major record deal and have it released before the time it would take to receive a bachelor’s degree.
I was signed by Pete Nice of 3rd Bass to Hoppoh Recordings in December of 1993. This all took place during the emergence of Wu-Tang Clan. I received the deal in the summer but negotiations went on until mid-holiday season.
