India's Geography is astronomy based.
Why name Vindhya? The answer is, it comes from "Vidhya- to pierce"-what can pierce hypothetically. "Tropic line" for "measure", where "vidha" is used for "measure" again.
Thus Vindhyottara would essentially mean land north of Tropic line.

This is connecting with Vishnupadatirtha which is another name of Gaya. During Ramayana times(12000 BCE) Tropic of Cancer used to pass from todays Gaya. "Vishnu is Tripadaadhyaksha". The three pegs are Tropic of Cancer, Equator and Tropic of Capricorn.
Vindhya is the final nail to the "Vishnupadatirtha"- both latitudes are in proximity. I would be able to differentiate now how Vishnupada and Vishnupadi ( Suryasiddhanta) are different. It had been 2 years after this jigsaw puzzle, finally ends.

1. The name itself is the evidence, whether we take वेध; hole, piercing( either for gnomon or line), hitting, or विन्ध्य; obstructing ( sun takes trope from tropic line). "Vindhyottara" word doesn't have "parvata or giri" here; e.g., विन्ध्यगिरि.
Incedently, due to trope of Sun from that latitude we have विन्ध्यगिरि name. 2. Also "Hima" on Vindhya from shabdakalpadrum suggests its antiquity which again points to LGM. And that with >24 degree was happening around 12-13000 BCE with snow like conditions. e.g from Shabdakalpa
