India's Geography is astronomy based.

Why name Vindhya? The answer is, it comes from "Vidhya- to pierce"-what can pierce hypothetically. "Tropic line" for "measure", where "vidha" is used for "measure" again.

Thus Vindhyottara would essentially mean land north of Tropic line. Image This is connecting with Vishnupadatirtha which is another name of Gaya. During Ramayana times(12000 BCE) Tropic of Cancer used to pass from todays Gaya. "Vishnu is Tripadaadhyaksha". The three pegs are Tropic of Cancer, Equator and Tropic of Capricorn. Image
