In 1094 AD Gujarat king Karnadev Solanki defeated Ashapalli's Bhil's chieftain Asha Bhil. Karnadev founded "Karnavati" city near Ashapalli. He built temples of Kochharba Devi, Jayanti Devi & Karneshwar Mahadev & Karnasagar lake here.
In 1094 King Karnadev crowned his son Jaysinh Solanki as Gujarat king & he went to Karnavati to live a retired life. Karnadev died there soon.11th century Ashapalli/Ashaval/Karnavati was situated on Sabarmati river bank near Calico Mill, out of Jamalpur Darwaza-gate of Ahmedabad.
In 11th century Ashapalli/Ashaval/Karnavati was major city & 2nd capital of Gujarat. In 1411 AD Gujarat Sultan Ahmedshah decided to shift his capital from Patan to place adjoining Karnavati as it was strategical place on routes of Gujarat.
In 1411 AD Gujarat Sultan Ahmedshah not changed the name of Karnavati but he founded new city Ahmedabad on open flat ground, adjoining in north of Karnavati/Ashapalli/Ashaval city.
In 1411 AD adjoining city Karnavati was ruined by Sultan Ahmedshah to build new city Ahmedabad. Houses & temples were destroyed for building material for Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad first Masjid Ahmedshah Masjid in Bhadra was built with stones of ruined temples of nearby Karnavati city.
According to great historians of Gujarat Ratnamanirao Bhimrao Jhote,Hariprasad Shastri & Ke.Ka.Shastri (founder of Vishva Hindu Parishad) Ahmedabad was not Ashaval/Karnavati.Ahmedabad & Ashaval (Karnavati) were co-existed for 162 years after foundation of Ahmedabad in 1411 AD.
Location of Ashapalli/Ashaval/Karnavati was near Calico Mill, Behrampura, Out of Jamalpur Darwaza, Ahmedabad. It was existed up to end of Gujarat Sultnat & begin of Delhi Mughal power in 1573 AD.Ahmedshah founded Ahmedabad in north of it in 1411 AD. Image
People always adopts popular names of cities. In 11th century Gujarat king Karnadev Solanki renamed Ashapalli/Ashaval as Karnavati but people did not accept it & forgot it. It continued to know as Ashaval till 1573 AD. It is mentioned as Karnavati in few Jain monks' books only.
In 1411 AD Gujarat Sultan Ahmedshah founded Ahmedabad very near to Ashaval (Karnavati) as per middle age Persian history book 'Mirat-i-Sikandari'. Image

There are historical evidences that Karnavati/Ashaval existed up to 1573 AD at end of Gujarat Sultnat. Thereafter it vanished due to developement of Ahmedabad. It merged with Ahmedabad's subburbs in Mughal rule (1573-1758 AD). It was between today Behrampura & Shah Alam area.
