Q: In this job you will face many struggles - this is not a 9-5 - how are you going to take the advice you would give to students regarding wellbeing, and apply them to yourself and your own life? #GUSRCElections
A (EM): Important to practice what you preach - understanding that this position will take its toll. Being emotionally supported enough to support everyone else - dealing with stress effectively #GUSRCElections
A (RS): This has been a busy year for RS. They try to maintain a social life on top of the academic demands of University and working full time. Watching sabbs this year has allowed them to learn and prepare for this role #GUSRCElections
A (MM): over the years MM has built a support system and coping mechanisms so is not worried about handling these issues #GUSRCElections
A (BA): BA is a Mind Your Mate trainer - believes students should join the training. It is important to be open and transparent. Would like to look after their own mental health and act as a role model for student with chronic mental health issues #GUSRCElections

Over the weekend & the past few days our student officers, & student volunteers, have been up at Halls helping to carry out welfare checks and deliver food parcels to isolating students.

Although students in University Halls are now getting some much needed help we know that there are many of you who might need help but haven’t received it, particularly if you’re living in private halls or just renting a flat.
The service will currently operate using an appointment system. These can be made on the same-day should you wish. Contact advice@src.gla.ac.uk to arrange an appointment.
All students visiting the service will be asked to follow the latest COVID-19 safety regulations:

⚠️ respecting 2m distancing and any one-way systems in place,
😷 wearing a mask in enclosed areas where physical distancing is not possible,
👏 maintaining a strict hygiene regime and washing hands regularly,
🏠 and staying home should you feel any symptoms of COVID-19.
Happy non-binary day! Today we celebrate our non-binary students & staff 💛💜🖤 #NonBinaryDay 1/6
Currently there are calls for gender-neutral passports to be approved in the UK. These already exist in Australia, Canada and Germany. GUSRC support this campaign and hope it is rolled out!
If you’re not non-binary, why not take today as an opportunity to learn more about the gender identities it includes, and how to support those who identify with them. The links below should help you!
GUSRC are proud & excited to present the @UofGlasgow Virtual Student Teaching Awards 2020! 🏆
Every year we host the #STAs to recognise the outstanding work of those who have gone above and beyond to make our time here at #TeamUofG the best it can possibly be 🌟 [1/4]
Usually we would host a fancy event in the Kelvin Gallery, however this year due to COVID we'll be doing a virtual version of the awards.
On our Facebook page from 09:00 - 17:30 on Friday 12th June, we'll be sharing a series of videos for each of the award categories. [2/4]
There will also be an intro from our VP Education Liam and speeches from senior members of staff at the University who have helped us over our 10 years of organising these awards. [3/4]
GUSRC stands in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter protesters in America. We have all been appalled by the levels of police brutality on show over the weekend.
At times like these we need to support our BAME friends and be good allies so we would urge you to reach out [1/2]
a hand of friendship to anyone you think may be struggling right now.
We'll continue to do what we can to work with BAME communities locally and nationally to stamp out racism wherever it is found. [2/3]
UofG BAME students can find support contacts and resources on this page ▶️ gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/huma… [3/3]
From all of us here at GUSRC well done and be proud of yourself as we all are of you! The future may seem uncertain but there is so much for @UofGlasgow students to be proud of having achieved already 👏
