Sitting at home with no #ColU football to go to has got me thinking about what films to watch. Here’s my top 10 football films ever made. Can you name them? Any new ones for me to watch? I’ll post the film names and details of my top 10 later today so you can watch them all. Image
So here goes in reverse order here are my top 10 football films. Bringing up the rear at No 10 The Keeper. The film about #ManchesterCity’s German goalie Bert Trautmann. Image
At No 9 Bill Forsyth’s 1980s film Gregory’s Girl staring Dee Hepburn as Dorothy the marvellous footballer. Image
At No 8 Fever Pitch based on Nick Hornby’s book by the same name. Despite been about the #Gunners it brought the love of the beautiful game to thousands of new fans. Image
At No 7 the slightly pretentious French Art House film with 17 cameras focusing on the wonderful playing style of Zinedine Zidane. Image
At No 6 The Damned United based on David Peace’s cracking book which tells the story of Brian Clough’s disastrous spell at #LeedsUnited A big favourite of @LUFCPromised Image
At No 5 Diego #Maradona the recent documentary film about the Argentinian footballer which you can catch on Channel Four tonight & then probably on play again. Image
At No 4 another fantastic lead women footballing character in Bend it Like Beckham. Jess a London Indian Sikh played by Parminder Nagra fights to play the game we all love. Beckham puts in a cameo appearance. Image
Coming in at No 3 the inspirational Iranian film Offside. If you were full of admiration for Iranian women’s determination to watch the last World Cup you’ll absolutely love this one. Image
At No 2 we have the first of two films by Ken Loach. Unusually for Loach this film starring Eric Cantona is hilarious, borders on been a feel good movie and has a happy ending. It also features Phoenix club #FCUM Image
At No 1 Ken Loach’s Kes. In my opinion the football scene with PE teacher Mr Sugden played by Brian Glover is without doubt the pinnacle of football at the movies. Loach does author Barry Hines’s book Kesterel for a Knave proud. If you haven’t seen it you’re in for a treat. Image
So here’s my top ten football movies to watch whilst we keep our social distance to fight the virus and support our wonderful #NHSCovidHeroes & #StaySafeStayHome Image
