Right now, Congress is negotiating over the next #COVID19 stimulus package, and it must include funding for protecting the #2020Election. We can’t let the pandemic put our right to vote in November at risk. #ProtectTheVote brennancenter.org/our-work/polic…
State and local election officials tell us they need the funding now or else they won’t be ready to carry out a safe, fair, and secure #2020Election in pandemic conditions. #ProtectTheVote brennancenter.org/our-work/resea…
We recommend:
✔️expanding vote-by-mail options
✔️expanding online voter registration
✔️making in-person voting safe
Congress must fund these efforts immediately to protect every vote in #Election2020, especially in marginalized communities. #ProtectTheVote

Voting by mail is perfectly legal in Texas, yet S.B. 1 forbids election officials from encouraging voters to apply for mail ballots. The punishment? Minimum of 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $10,000. /2
“S.B. 1 makes it a crime for me to do a critical part of my job, and it hurts the most vulnerable voters,” said Harris County Elections Administrator Isabel Longoria (@LongoriaTx). Longoria is the top election official in the county. /3

A federal judge has upheld the constitutionality of Pennsylvania’s mail ballot drop boxes, county residency restriction for poll watchers, and other voting rules, rejecting claims of “voter fraud” as too “speculative” and supported by “scant” evidence.
The ruling, in Donald J. Trump for President v. Boockvar, will ensure that eligible Pennsylvania voters can vote safely this year.
On June 29, President Trump’s reelection campaign, the RNC, several members of Congress, and several individual voters sued Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar, originally seeking an injunction banning the use of mail ballot drop boxes altogether.
