Seriously, just these free hangout environments are top-notch. You can almost smell that room, those old computers. Psyched for the full experience, man.

But! Before I disappear for the next forever I just gotta say it already wins for "best aluminum can physics." Valve Index controllers are pressure-sensitive, so you can pick things up gently and then squeeeeze them.

Dang. First few hours of #HalfLifeAlyx are mind bogglingly engaging. Next-level detail and clever design all over the place, this is classic Valve goodness.

Also more survival horror than anticipated, jeez! Highly stressful in an oddly satisfying way haha

seriously THIS GAME.

I feel utterly overwhelmed, it's wonderful.

Hey folks.

Unfortunately LGR will be postponed for a good while I feel.

More details to follow but the hurricane has done *incredible* damage to my place, I won’t be livin there for a bit. Many folks I know have it much worse than I do so please keep Asheville in your thoughts.

I am safe, my family and friends are safe

almost no cell signal but maybe this’ll work

2 trees destroyed my roof, living/dining room, flooded my LGR collection rooms down below

a dozen or more trees down in frontyard, no way yet to get equipment in to remove trees, roof hole is too big & unstable to put a tarp over it

Can't say I've ever bought an Apple thing on launch but what can I say, 2020's been weird.

I've been wanting a newer, more lightweight LGR work laptop for a while now and all the M1 talk intrigued my tech lust enough to give the new Air a try. 8-core, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD model.

ahhh good, this'll do

I appreciate that networked PCs are still represented by a blue screen of death'd beige CRT on Big Sur

Reel to reel tape recorder: 𝙖𝙘𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙.

And yeah I went for a Tandberg 10XD, at least for the time being! Doesn't do absolutely everything of course, but it can play 4-track 15 ips 10.5" reels with Dolby noise reduction. Top of the line machine in 1975, costing $1399 back then. The equivalent of nearly $7000 now.

It's also covered in solid rosewood on all sides

Blerb! That Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP card I bought in LGR eThrifts? It showed up.

Time to unbox it!

This is the only 3500 I've found complete in box under $300 after years of looking. Being sealed was a nice bonus but I knew it wouldn't last 😄

The whole reason I bought it was to open it, thoroughly enjoy it, and eventually give it the LGR treatment & share it with the world.

Ha, I didn't realize that today is also the day Nvidia's embargo lifted on the 3080 cards. Makes for an amusing contrast in the ol' YouTube feed.

So all the big tech channels are covering the RTX 3000 series, while here I sit enjoying the Voodoo 3000 series. So it goes on LGR!

Quantum3d Obsidian2 X-24, the fastest single-slot Voodoo2 card ever made. Essentially two 3dfx cards in an SLI sandwich, it's a beast!

Unfortunately this one doesn't come with the required "medusa cable" for VGA output, so that's unfortunate. See that funky d-sub connector on the right? You'd plug it in there to connect a monitor. Otherwise it's just composite/s-video out.

Thankfully mine came with it, heh.

Really just provides VGA passthrough like any other Voodoo 2 card, but I guess they wanted the space on the card for composite and s-video. Wish they had THOSE use a breakout cable instead.

a Saturday morning internet rabbit hole put me down the path of Q-tips history and now I know they were originally called Baby Gays.

All I wanted to know was whether or not Q-tips was still a protected trademark since it's become a generic term, but now I'm travelling down a whole new path of research and wish me luck
