This talk of war against the virus is a classic mid-life crisis defensive reaction. There is no enemy when you are sick. We need no fight. We need care and rest. Later, we will need courage and imagination to redesign our lives and institutions.
This talk all war is about leaders who learned how to fight but not how to hold. How to respond but not how to listen. How to put action before imagination. We need no warriors now and we won’t need them later. We need scientists and artists.
Look at the doctors now, for an example of science and art at work. Then emulate their leadership. Theirs ain’t really a fight. It’s a bad metaphor. It’s a resolute hold on life.
