This timely article reminded me of Menzies’ 1960 study of Taylorist rotations as social defenses. Made health providers feel more “professional” and less human, reducing anxiety and provoking angst. Modern tech serves much the same function, and produces much the same burnouts.
Taylorism, seen that way, is the cancer of tech. Always threatens a workplace where innovation grows without human modulation.
