How does Israel’s blockade shape life for Palestinians in Gaza? A crumbling healthcare system, constant power outages, and the constant buzz of drones overhead. Activists are calling on the US to #DefundGazaBlockade and Instead fund #HealthCareForAll
Palestinians in occupied Gaza are battling the spread of Covid-19 with scarce resources as a result of Israel's suffocating blockade. This means even water for drinking and washing hands is not readily accessible. facebook.com/theIMEU/photos…
Power shortages, no clean drinking water, and hospitals with no room left for patients. That’s the status of the occupied Gaza Strip, which for 12+ years has been under constant Israeli siege, meaning little gets in or out.
Almost 70% of Gaza’s population are refugees. This means they or their descendants were forcibly expelled from their homes in 1948 by Zionist militias. Many of these refugees live within walking distance of their old homes. independent.co.uk/news/long_read…
When Palestinians protest against the occupation and siege of their land, they are met with Israeli snipers who deliberately target children, medics, and journalists. electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abun…
Activists are calling on the US to #DefundGazaBlockade which imposes these conditions on Palestinians in occupied Gaza. Instead, these funds can and should go towards fighting for #healthcareforAll.
It’s long past time to prioritize funding healthcare over the military war machine at home and abroad. #DefundGazaBlockade #HealthcareforAll

THREAD: A new @UN report finds that Israeli soldiers are systematically sexually abusing Palestinians.

Content Warning: This thread includes descriptions of sexual violence.
For months, Palestinians in Gaza have reported horrific accounts of Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting them.

Now, a new UN report confirms that Israel’s sexual abuse of Palestinians in Gaza is part of its “operating procedures.”
Israeli soldiers’ sexual abuse of Palestinians in the past 8 months includes:
- Raping at least 1 Palestinian to death
- Raping Palestinians by forcing them to sit on hot, electric metal rods
- Sexually abusing Palestinian children, including by forcing them to strip naked in public
- Collecting the intimate wear of Palestinian women after violently forcing them to flee from their homes
- Writing rape threats on the ruins of Palestinian homes they’ve destroyed
- Videotaping and posting their sexual abuse of Palestinians online

THREAD: In the last 48 hours, the Israeli military has escalated its violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, killing 12 Palestinians. Since October, Israeli soldiers and settlers have killed 543 Palestinians, including 133 children.
For the past 8 months, Israel has conducted daily raids on Palestinian homes and communities in the West Bank. Recently, this violence has reached unprecedented levels, causing widespread terror and suffering.
Israel has no legal authority to send its military into Palestinian towns and cities. The ongoing violence and humiliation inflicted on Palestinians in the West Bank are both unjust and unlawful.

THREAD: How Israel Occupied What Remained of Palestinian Land in 1967.
During the Nakba, Arabic for the “catastrophe” of 1948, armed militias violently stole 78% of Palestinian land to establish the state of Israel.

These militias massacred Palestinian families and forced the majority of Palestinians to flee their homes.
In 1967, Israel occupied the remaining 22% of Palestinian land—including the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza—controlling all of Palestine.

Israel also occupied Egypt's Sinai Desert and Syria's Golan Heights. Israel still illegally rules over the Golan Heights today.

THREAD: No students are graduating in Gaza this year.
As students in the US and around the world celebrate graduation this spring, Israel has stolen that opportunity from Palestinian students in Gaza.

Israel has destroyed every single university in Gaza & destroyed or damaged 80% of Gaza's schools.
Israel has intentionally bombed children’s schools and universities – many while Palestinians sheltered inside.

According to the UN, Israel has killed more than 5,479 students, 261 teachers, and 95 university professors and injured over 7,819 students.

THREAD: Israel invaded the Palestinian City of Jenin today, killing 7 Palestinians, including 2 children.

With full impunity, Israel is intensifying its broad daylight attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank.
At 8AM this morning, while Palestinians were on their way to school and work, the Israeli military invaded the Palestinian city of Jenin.

Israeli soldiers killed 2 children, a teacher, and a surgeon outside his hospital.
With all eyes on Gaza, Israel has escalated its atrocities in the West Bank to little global awareness or outcry.

There, Israel has destroyed Palestinian homes, stolen Palestinian land, and killed and unjustly arrested 100s of Palestinians, faster and more brutally than ever.

THREAD: Today marks 2 years since Israel killed renowned Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Israel hasn't stopped killing Palestinian journalists since then.
On May 11, 2022, an Israeli soldier shot Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the head, killing her while she was reporting in a clearly marked press vest and helmet.

Israel and the US ignored widespread calls for accountability.
Since then, Israel has continued killing journalists with impunity.

In the past 7 months alone, Israel has killed at least 135 Palestinian journalists in Gaza, more journalists than were killed in the entirety of WWII.
