So it's been awhile since I posted a #SupermanAnalogue post and that's because my company has been declared an essential service and I've been working more hours than usual. Would have been nice to have some help, like perhaps a feel of robots. Superman certainly thinks so! Image
I mentioned them last time when I was talking about the 50s Power Man. By the time we got to the Silver Age, Superman (and his younger version Superboy) had become a very closely associated with having robot helpers to assist in maintaining their secret identity. Image
He also had one for Clark Kent, but also had once for all of his human friends. Overtime, they received upgrades so that eventually the ones emulating Superman possessed enough of his powers to convincingly pass for him. Image
Why did this make sense? Well, you have to understand that Superman traditionally was also super intelligent and it just kind of made sense that a person who could create a fortress of infinite wonder also could create robot servants. Comics! Image
This became such a staple of the character that many analogues based on the Silver Age All Powerful version have some reference to this. Supreme for example whose robots eventually colonized their own world. Since Crisis on Infinite Earths, it's come and gone for Superman proper. Image
Usually when they show up nowadays, there's more sinister overtones to them. Like in the early 2000s when Superman built a bunch and then they all went insane. Image
Adaptations have also featured the Superman robots, but usually they are abstracted a bit Image
Also, more modern adaptations have usually made them stem from Kryptonian technology, so Superman was adapting existing technology rather than inventing his own whole cloth. Image
(Just a reminder that his intellect is usually the FIRST thing nerfed when it comes to Superman) Image
But when Superman has his full conplement of similarly powerful automated assistants, he's clearly at no loss of power! Image
And these are certainly robotic warriors prepared to stand by their creator and die for him if necessary. Image
Ultimately, his robots are the most classic Analogues, standing in for the Man of Steel wherever necessary and supplementing his abilities when he needs to be everywhere. Image
