Title: When Duty Calls
Prompt: Curious to see if anyone can figure it out 😏
For @BBendiraa, the winner of my 1000+ Follower giveaway!
When you were a hero, your first and foremost responsibility was beating the shit out of bad guys and saving the extras that were too lame to save themselves. It didn’t matter if you were on or off shift;
it didn’t matter if you had dinner plans, or if it was your mother’s birthday; it didn’t matter if you were sick or tired or stressed. It didn’t matter what you were doing, because lives needed to be saved and the villains wouldn't wait until the heroes were ready to attack.
That’s why, as Bakugou Katsuki ran through the streets of Tokyo, chasing down an armed bank robber with a sack full of money, he swore he would blast that fucker to kingdom come if he made him late.
His hero costume didn’t allow him the capability to check the time, but last he knew he had an hour to spare. If he blasted his way through the crowd, he might be able to catch up to him quickly.
“Out of my way, extras!” Katsuki barked, firing warning sparks from his palm.
Those nearest to him scrambled back. While he had gotten better at it, he still wasn’t known for his tact in the heat of the moment.
He launched himself in the air, high enough above the crowd that he could spot the criminal taking off down the street.
Katsuki clicked his tongue, calculating the trajectory needed and rotated his body in mid air before firing a blast with just enough force to send him toward the villain. He shot past the robber and used a counter blast to turn mid air, stopping his momentum.
Right fist reeled back, Katsuki grinned wildly.
“Night-night, motherfucker!”

“𝒟𝓊𝒹𝑒, 𝓌𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊?!”
Kirishima.
Katsuki tapped his foot on the shoulder of the unconscious criminal he had restrained and tossed to the ground like a sack of rotten potatoes. The bag of money rested on his other side, daring anyone to try and take it from him.
He gritted his teeth, trying to fight the anxious jitter that rattled through his bones. “I’m in fucking central Tokyo—“ He spoke through the intercom hooked in his right ear and linked via bluetooth to his cellphone.
“𝒲𝒽𝒶𝓉?! 𝒟𝓊𝒹𝑒 — 𝒲𝒽𝓎?”
He glanced around him, glaring down the awestruck eyes that gazed upon him. The public had stopped fearing his intimidation tactics several years ago after his PR manager carefully constructed it into his Hero Image.
People 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘥 his asshole persona, though he still got some scathing reviews, especially from the older crowd for his vulgarity.
𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘩, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳… Katsuki thought, sneering at a group of young girls ogling him as they passed.
They squealed louder and ran away, batting each other's shoulders. What was wrong with people?
“Fucker decided to rob a bank—“
“𝒮𝑜?! 𝐿𝑒𝓉 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝑒𝓁𝓈𝑒 𝒸𝒶𝓉𝒸𝒽 𝒽𝒾𝓂.”
Katsuki blanched. “I’m the number three hero! I can’t!”
He technically could have, but he was right there. The villain was within his range. He couldn’t ignore the twitch in his arm that compelled him to feel the sweet euphoria of victory… The high was fleeting though, because now all he felt was high strung and aggravated.
Katsuki was thankful. “Yeah, well, it ain’t like this shit can start until I’m there anyway.” He was just very bad at showing it.
“𝒟𝑜 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓁𝓁𝓎 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝓅𝓁𝒶𝓎 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝑔𝒶𝓂𝑒 𝓉𝑜𝒹𝒶𝓎?”
No.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can,” Katsuki grunted, spotting the red and blue cruiser lights flashing down the road. “Cops are here.” He pushed a button on his earpiece to end the call.
“Ground Zero, we can’t thank you enough!!”
——
Katsuki bit back every curse in the book.
Thirty minutes.
He had thirty fucking minutes to get to the church that was twenty minutes away, showered, and changed — He had narrowly escaped the media rolling in just as he had finished giving his statement to the police.
Katsuki didn’t think he had ever fled a scene so fast before.
The explosive blonde launched himself in the air, using consecutive explosions to keep himself afloat. If he kept this pace he could just make it…
“𝙃𝙚𝙡𝙥!”
No. No, someone else could deal with it…
“𝙈𝙮 𝙨𝙤𝙣! 𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥!”
For fuck’s sake!
“What’s the goddamn problem?!” Katsuki barked, redirecting his next blast to send himself spiraling into a nearby park. “Hurry up,” he spat in a middle-aged woman’s face.
Her long black hair was pulled into a low bun and her lips trembled nervously as she fiddled with her fingers. “I ain’t got all day!”
The woman sniffled, tears prickling the corners of her eyes. Katsuki grimaced. Don’t fucking cry…
“My son!”
She pointed to a young boy, maybe no older than six, clinging to a construction beam one lot over, beyond some high fencing. “He’s stuck, please help him!!”
Katsuki wasn’t sure his jaw ever dropped so low. “How the fuck did he even get up there?!” he barked at the mother.
“It’s his quirk! He can teleport, but he doesn’t have very good control over it yet…”
Of all the damn things. “Yeah, no fucking shit!” He snapped. He ran several paces before throwing his arm behind him and blasting himself fifty feet in the air.
He twisted mid air, landing with his boots on the underside of the scaffolding. He kicked off, grabbing the child by the scruff of his shirt.
The boy’s cries rang in his ear as he tucked him into his chest in a free fall.
One small blast sent him safely over the fencing and another corrected his orientation so that his boots met the gravel with a thud.
“Haruto!”
Katsuki opened his arms, releasing the small boy.
He ran toward his mother and met her half way, sobbing into her skirts while the mother crouched, soothing his tears with soft strokes to his back.
“Oi!” Katsuki barked, startling the two.
The mother gasped. “Oh, yes - I’m so sorry. Where are my manners? Thank you so much for saving my son! I—“
Katsuki waved his hand, dismissing her praise and undying gratitude. He heard it all before. “I didn’t save him for your thanks,” he grunted.
“You. Kid.” Haruto lifted his head. Tears streamed down his face, snot dripping down to his lips. Katsuki twitched.
Ew.
“Learn to fucking control your quirk.” He ignored the gasp from the mother, who looked torn somewhere between scolding him and covering her son’s ears.
He held the boys stare as his lip wobbled and took a deep breath. Right. PR. This was a kid. “You have a good quirk, but it’s dangerous if you can’t control where you end up. Practice at home so you don’t end up somewhere you don’t wanna be.”
Haruto stopped fidgeting, his tears drying up as he honed in on what Katsuki was saying. Did he understand? Good.
“Who knows. With a quirk like that…if you figure out how to use it right, maybe you can be a hero, too…”
The boy’s jaw dropped, stars sparkling in his eyes instead of fear. “I…I could?”
Katsuki shrugged. He wasn’t fucking Deku, who would spend an extra hour with the kid to develop his fifteen year plan to go pro. “Who knows. That's up to you.”
He straightened up, shoving his hands in his pockets, and rocked back on his heels, turning to walk away. He raised a hand over his shoulder. “Later, kid.”
Twenty minutes.
Katsuki barely caught the shrill, “Thank you, Ground Zero!” as he blasted himself out of the park and back on track.
He was only fifteen minutes away now. He could still make it.
Except some stupid tabby cat stuck in a tree had other plans for him. The attempted knife stabbing outside the convenience store downtown left him with a fresh cut down his right cheek, but he gave the asshole an even bigger wound to his face to worry about.
The lost child at the street market literally one block away from where he needed to be almost caused him to lose it until he hoisted the little girl up onto his shoulders so that she could spot her father frantically looking for her by the vegetables.
𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘰.Katsuki swallowed it with pride, despite the throbbing in his temple and the vein pulsing in his neck. His biceps flexed in frustration. 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰!
He was five minutes late when he burst into the cathedral doors. Kirishima was waiting for him, bouncing on his toes anxiously. He jolted at his entrance and Katsuki was sure he was a site to behold. “What did I miss? Fill me in.”
He was already stripping off his grenades, unclipping his belt as Kirishima rushed to usher him into a side room the other groomsmen had used for changing.
“Well, you’re late, for starters,” Shitty Hair stated, unhelpfully. He deserved a demotion for that reminder.
“The girls are waiting. Jirou said they’re getting antsy. Kaminari is entertaining the crowd while Iida gives a lecture on proper cell phone use during the ceremony…”
That was all Katsuki needed to hear before he ripped his mask off his head.
“Okay, enough. Help me out of this shit…”
Kirishima helped him wrestle out of his boots, while Katsuki made his best attempt to towel dry the nitroglycerine from his body. At least my sweat doesn’t smell bad… There was always a silver lining.
He yanked on a pressed red dress shirt, fumbling with the buttons, while Kirishima ran to grab his white tux from the carrier.
He hated tuxes, but for today he would deal with it.
The door cracked open and Mina peeked her head in. “Hurry up!!” She hissed.
“The bride is getting super anxious and you know what happens when she’s nervous! I am not cleaning puke out of her dress—“
Kirishima dropped to his knees, and Katuski pretended that his best friend didn’t just pants him as he stepped out of his cargo pants.
“Then get in here and help!” Kirishima called. “Fix his hair.”
Katsuki frowned. “What's wrong with my hair?”
“And his face while you’re at it.”
“What's wrong with my face?!” Katsuki snapped even louder.
“Dude, you are literally bleeding. In white.”
He shoved his tux pants into his arms before running over to grab his boutineer.
Katsuki scoffed. He yanked his pants on and tucked his shirt as Mina ran over, muttering about how they were ‘hopeless boys and would never survive without her help.’
She might be right.
Mina attended to the cut on his cheek. She wiped away the blood with a cloth, biting her tongue between her teeth. “What the heck were you doing all this time?! Why did you have to get cut here of all places!” Mina complained.
Katsuki glowered at her.
“Don’t do that. You’re making it bleed more.”
“I was saving half of fucking Tokyo, thats what!” Katsuki barked, a small spark escaping his hand. Mina swatted at him scoldingly. “Sorry I didn’t get cut in a more convenient location for you while intercepting a stabbing!”
Mina huffed, shoving the towel harder in his face. Katsuki was pretty sure she was attempting to gag him with it so he couldn’t snap at her. “Hold this!” She told him before waddling out of the room as fast as she could in her golden cream dress and heels.
Katsuki blinked after her. Okay, then?
Kirishima got him into his vest and jacket, and was lacing his shoes by the time she came back, huffing, purse in hands. “Got it!” She opened her bag and pulled out…
“Why the fuck do you have super glue?”
Mina rolled his eyes. “A girl is always prepared. Do you know how many uses this has? Frayed clothes? Broken nails? Cuts.”
Katsuki’s eyes widened. “Hey - no, don’t you fucking — Ugh!!”
Two minutes later, Katsuki was sitting in a chair as Mina ‘made his hair more presentable’ by gelling his bangs back while clear superglue dried on his cheek.
He didn’t want to admit that she was right because the bleeding stopped and you could hardly tell there was anything on his face.
Fucking Raccoon Eyes.
“Okay. I think we’re done… Let's go!”
Katsuki jumped up, glad there wasn’t a clock in the room. He didn’t want to know how much time he wasted…
“THE TIE!!” Mina screeched.
Katsuki bolted for the door. “FUCK THE TIE!” He screamed back.
He vaguely heard Kirishima talk Mina down from the tie - her complaining that it was vital to his image - before she ultimately gave up in defeat. Katsuki stood outside the doors, unbuttoning the top two buttons of his shirt as Kirishima joined him.
“Dude—!” The red head eyed him. His lips pursed, trying as hard as he could not to smirk. “Mina’s going to kill you.”
He shrugged. “Not her wedding anymore.”
Kirishima shook his head. He nudged him with his elbow. “You ready?”
Katsuki gave a single nod, standing off to the side before Kirishima ducked into the sanctum to call the groomsmen back. Deku was the first through the doors. He smiled at him, tears glistening in his emerald eyes before Katsuki rolled his eyes at him. Iida was next.
“I’m glad to see you made it, though I must impress the importance of punctuality on a day like today…”
“Yeah yeah, Four Eyes. Keep it moving…” Katsuki grunted, knowing the importance yet still not having been able to do anything about it.
Thankfully Todoroki came up behind Iida, guiding him away with a light push from behind. Katsuki was almost thankful, until he opened his mouth, “You really did keep us waiting though…I’m sure it was important.”
Icy-hot bastard…
Katsuki sent him a seething glare, unable to do more without causing a scene.
Sero waltzed out, winking at him with his wide grin, followed by Kaminari who shot him two finger guns. “We’re ready, boss man.” Kirishima wrapped up the line, closing the doors behind him.
“I’m going to go get the girls. You remember what to do?” Kirishima asked.
Katsuki’s lip curled. “Yeah. I’m talking up to the damn alter and waiting. It ain't fucking rocket science!” He clenched and unclenched his palms, fighting the urge to shove them in his pants.
Slouching down the aisle was not acceptable, but like hell he was going to let these losers know his stomach was twisting and turning like a damp rag that was leaking through the pores of his hands.
Kirishima handed him a cloth, much like the one his father carried around -
while the others went to line up. Katsuki snatched it without a word, glaring down at his hands as he wiped them dry. “Kay. Go get em.” Kirishima walked down the hall to get the girls and that was Katsuki’s cue.
Taking a deep breath, he squared his shoulders and pushed the heavy wooden doors open. The church was full. The pews filled from front to back, with only a couple seats reserved for their parents in the first row. Heads turned.
Every eye in the room was focused on him, but a crowd never intimidated him. The music played and Katsuki put one foot forward, then another until he stopped on the pedestal before the altar where the priest stood.
There was soft, excited chatter as they waited. And waited.
It was maybe only a minute. Two at most, but it felt like eternity. Katsuki resisted the urge to reach for his handkerchief again. She waited over fifteen minutes for his late ass. He could wait just a couple more for her.
Just before his incredibly thin patience wore out, the procession started. His mother and father walked in first, arm and arm. His father smiled at him warmly, while his mother gave him a stern look behind the smile stretched on her lips.
He knew the strain that pulsed in her temple likely annoyed with him for being so late.
Join the line.
Next was the mother of the bride. She looked calm though her eyes had a particular sheen to them that made the pinks of her cheeks glow a little brighter as she took her seat.
Iida was the first of the wedding party to walk, escorting Toru. Her dress and accessories were the only indication that anyone was latched onto Iida’s bent arm. They split at the end of the path, each taking their spot on the respective ends of the altar.
Kaminari came out next, escorting Jirou on his arm. Deku and Melissa walked out next. The nerd still looked ready to cry, while Melissa patted his arm discretely down the aisle. Todoroki and Momo were next. Thank god.
Half-n-half was the only one that could calm Deku down with a subtle hand on his lower back as they stood.
Kirishima and Mina were last, taking their places at the front. Kirishima stood closest to him, rings safely tucked into his pocket.
Finally, a young girl with light brown hair curled into a bun on top of her head in the center of a yellow and pink flower crown, holding hands with a young, golden blond boy balancing a pillow on his other hand started to walk.
The basket of flowers was missing because the young girl could produce flower petals from her fingertips. She flicked her wrist left and right, giggling as multi colored petals sprinkled forth.
The floor was covered in pinks, whites, yellows, purples, and blues by the time she reached him by the altar.
This was it.
Katsuki’s eyes lifted toward the door once again as the music shifted and then it faded, muffled by the awe that overtook him as white filled his vision.
The bride emerged, clutching the tux clad arm of her father. She wore silk white gloves, specially designed to negate her quirk; a precaution taken to keep from floating herself, or anyone else into the stratosphere today.
His eyes followed the sweetheart neckline that crested over her breast and tampered into a ‘v’ at her waist before flaring out into a gentle bell of lace and silks that billowed around her as she walked.
The crystalline beading through the top sparkled as she walked down the aisle way, catching the light that streaked in through the windows.
Her face was modestly painted to highlight her features and make the brown of her eyes pop.
Despite looking a little pale, the apples of her cheeks were bright as ever.
The entire room faded and all the aggravation and stress he felt earlier that afternoon seemed to never have existed. This was the moment they had spent months planning.
Sleepless nights, petty arguments, passionate discourse, fighting his way through half of Tokyo—it was all for this moment here and Katsuki couldn’t have wished for it to be any other way.
She stopped, a mere two feet away from him as her father dropped his arm to grasp her hand
He stepped forward first, clapping Katsuki on the shoulder. “Take care of my Tea Leaf…”
Katsuki nodded deafly, unable to take his eyes off her for even a second. “I will,” he promised.
Something else was said. Katsuki wasn’t sure what. No one seemed to be nudging him for answers, though, so it couldn’t have been addressed to him.
He watched as Ochako settled across from him, going through the motions like a puppet, receiving commands and performing them without actually hearing what was being said.
He was getting married.
If anyone asked ten years ago what his plans for the future were, this would not be part of it, yet by some miracle, this chestnut haired, amber eyed, rosy cheeked angel fluttered her way into his life and made him reconsider everything he thought he needed, wanted, and knew.
He had always been missing something, despite his flawless talent, intelligent mind, and drive for success…
He was lacking an equal; someone who wasn’t afraid to meet him head on and give it their all.
Someone who understood his unorthodox way of thinking and was patient enough to figure out how to get through to him. Someone who balanced him out, while still pushing him to be better: a better hero; a better partner; a better man.
That woman stood before him today, likely a little queasy and just as anxious as he was.
“Repeat after me”
Katsuki turned back into the ceremony, thankful that they agreed to exchange vows privately. He was lucky his tongue worked enough to recite the priests words back at him.
He felt like he had just been hit with a stunning quirk and his brain hadn’t had enough time to recover yet.
“Do you… Bakugou Katsuki… Take Uraraka Ochako to be your lawfully wedded wife…to have and to hold…”
“I do.”
The priest paused. “…I…I’m not finished yet. There’s a little more…” He whispered quietly.
Katsuki flexed his jaw, his chest tightening. Why were there so many words?!
“𝙄 𝙙𝙤.” He affirmed.
There was a moment's pause before the priest gave up on him - good, now he could go back to staring at his almost wife - and turned to Ochako.
“Do you—“
“I DO!!” Ochako yelped, silencing the priest for a second time and cresting a smirk across Katsuki’s lips.
Her cheeks flushed a dark shade of pink in embarrassment, realizing her haste.
“Damn right you do.”
Maybe it was the affirmation, but Katsuki felt the nerves that had settled in his stomach begin to dissipate and his usually air of arrogant confidence returned.
Ochako looked up into his eyes, a smile splitting across her face before she turned away in an inappropriately timed sputter. Her sense of humor was somewhat unique, just like her. Katsuki felt his shoulders relax, a lopsided smile stretching across his lips.
The priest sighed, flipping ahead. “Right then… For the exchanging of rings…” He trailed off, his eyes following Katsuki’s hand as it reached over to grasp Ochako’s gloved fingers. She squeezed his hand, reaching with her other hand to grasp his.
Katsuki contained himself, spinning the ring in his fingers as the priest gave the instruction before sliding the thin band around Ochako’s left ring finger. Soon enough, cool metal was sliding across his ring finger as well.
“I now pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may kiss—“
Katuski stepped forward, his hands sliding down Ochako’s arms to grasp her waist. He pulled her toward him, swinging her over his hip with one arm, the other gently grasping her cheek as he ducked his head and kissed her.
Her arms found their way around his neck, fingers weaving through the spikes of blond Mina tried to tame.
“—The bride…” The priest sighed, a gentle smile tugging on his lips.
The room thundered with applause, hoots and hollers ringing in Katuski’s ears.
Ochako’s lips were soft and hungry as she kissed him back, arching into his chest as he supported her weight. He pulled his hand back from her cheek, raising his right fist into the air, setting off several cracks and pops before exploding victoriously.
He pulled back from the kiss, grinning down at his bride, the love of his life, as she threw her head back, howling with laughter.
Katsuki righted her, tucking a strand of hair that he had knocked loose behind her ear again. He kissed her once more before giving her his arm.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Mr. and Mrs. Bakugou!”
Ochako looped her arm around Katsuki’s, the trembling in her fingers having stopped. She leaned into his side, cheek pressed to his shoulder as he led her down the aisle.
“You were late…” She whispered.
Katsuki grunted out the side of his mouth. “Couldn’t be helped…” He muttered.
Her fingers stroked the inside of his forearm. He could feel the gentle pressure of her soothing the sore muscles beneath his tux.
“And the cut on your cheek? That wasn’t there yesterday.”
He smirked cheekily. “You should see the other guy.”
She pinched him, earning a lock-jawed grunt. “Oi…” He rumbled down at her. “I’ll make it up to you.”
Ochako’s eyes flashed, flickering up to him mischievously. “Yeah? How?”
Katsuki leaned down, kissing the shell of her ear.
“Later tonight. You’ll see…”
Her bottom lip tucked between her teeth. Just as they reached the septum doors, an earth shattering crash shook the church from bell to pew. The room froze, applause and mirth silenced before several pagers went off throughout the room.
A firm hand clasped Katsuki on the shoulder. “Man — go get to the reception hall. We’ll take care of this in no time!” He promised with a toothy grin and hardened fist before he ran out of the room, stripping off his jacket followed by several of the others.
Including Deku.
Katsuki glanced down at his newly wed wife. Her eyes were already staring up at him expectantly. “Bet I beat the villain before you,” She challenged.
“Heh,” A wide haughty smirk stretched across his lips. “In your dreams, Cheeks!” He broke away from her, bolting toward the door.
“That villain is mine to kill!”
Being a hero never stopped; not even on your wedding day, but that's the life they chose, together, and neither of them would have it any other way.
“KATSUKI GET BACK HERE,” Ochako screeched throwing open the chapel doors. “THAT TUX IS A RENTAL!”
🍡💥🍡DONE💥🍡💥
If you guys can't tell, I had too much fun writing this lol
As some people have guessed, the prompt is inspired by the Incredibles wedding! Granted I haven't seen this movie in 5+ years and I couldn't find it so everything is loosely based! Thank you @BBendira!
Here is the link to the AO3 version if you'd like to read it all in one place!
On their first date, Katsuki gave Ochako a rose. It was a simple, red flower with velvety petals and a sweet aroma that made her shoulders curl up to her ears as she held it against her chest.
A year after they had been going steady, Katsuki surprised her with two.
The following year, the number grew to three, then four, and five.
Eventually, 6 roses sat on the table in a faux crystal vase because Ochako would kill him if he ever spent the extra money on a real one that was just going to sit under the counter for another year.
Seven the following year, and Ochako admired the way they bloomed full beneath the suns rays trickling between her kitchen blinds.
Eight. Wow. Her heart felt as full as the blooms in her arms as she counted each stem she placed into the vase.
“Mina! I need you to cover for me!” Ochako called in a favor in the middle of her patrol.
She knew it was irresponsible and irrational, but she just got a text from Katsuki asking her to meet for a quickie.
During work hours.
Mr. ‘no fraternizing at the work place EVER’ was breaking his code and Ochako could not miss the opportunity to finally tear into that fitted black spandex top that tormented her every time her boyfriend so much as flexed — which was a lot!
