This surfaced today - kept as a souvenir by noted Test Pilot of the IAF, Gp Capt Ajit Agtey, who also happened to be a veteran of the 1971 war. Its a Pilots badge/Wings of a Pakistani Pilot .. the saga starts on 5th December when a pair of Starfighters swooped in low from .1/n
..north of Amritsar, trying to locate the elusive 230 SU radar in Amritsar city. Then Fg Offr Agtey spotted the one of the Starfighters pull up, its afterburner suddenly switched off, and an explosion in the cockpit indicating the pilot ejected. He immediately rushed to the..2/n
spot where the aircraft had come down, helped by his CO, the legendary Johnny Greene. Agtey rushed through the barbed wire fence - in time to stop two Army Jawans who were beating up the hapless Pakistani Pilot... who it turned out to be a Sqn ldr Amjad Hussain, who had ..3/n
previously taken part in the 65 war (and also ejected! after a combat with sqn ldr devayya's mystere). after ensuring the pilot was taken into custody and sent off for captivity, Agtey noted that the Pilot wings were lying nearby in the dust.. and here they are after being .4/n
preserved for about 50 years... Amjad Hussain was repatriated back after an year.. his Starfigther wreckage photo (below) became an iconic image of the 71 war .. and sadly had disappeared into the sands of time.. but the pilots badge/wings have survived... as above. 5/5
1/3 I was sent the 1971 War Brochure (PDF) and one picture caught my attention . It was obvious the picture was cropped and the three chiefs are smiling at someone.. I found the pic on the net and its obvious why it was cropped. 🙄 #1971war Look we get it. you dont want to give .
2/3..any credit to Mrs. G.. in which case just go ahead and use some other picture .. selective cropping of images from history doesn't do our generation any good.. Now if you think it's a one-off - I got news for you. #1971war
3/3 The chiefs are actually sitting down with Babu Jagjivan Ram, the Defence Minister. So past Defence Ministers are not worth retaining in the photos as well? #1971war
