Not every job is going to be a winner. *No* job lasts forever.

But hopefully by the time you are 10 years into your career you can look back on one or two highlights, jobs or roles that really set the bar for you moving forward.
I have two of those: Linden Lab and Parse. They were very different, but both had:

* coworkers who were visionary and kind; a social group that outlived the business model
* a mission that mattered to many, many people
* an uncomfortable amount of personal growth
I'm probably going to get more shit for bringing this up now, at a time of so much upheaval and terror, when most of the world is eyeing a choice between doom and doomier.

But it feels even more urgent to me now to say .. if you are so lucky as to have a choice, /don't waste it/
If you get to work on something you feel personally gratified by, and be highly compensated for doing it, you are the envy of 99.999% of all humans who have ever lived.
Yes. Obviously. Make smart, careful decisions during the time of the virus, for you and your family. But what excuse did 2019 you have?

I see so many skilled people hanging out in jobs they don't love or respect, for no reason other than inertia, or interview aversion.
That feels to me like a slap in the face of all the people who don't have a choice. And it lets shitty employers off the hook.

Life is short. Devote your time to those who deserve it. Quit your job (once it is again sensible to do so 🙃)
P.S. interviews really have gotten less terrible, almost across the board, at least in Silicon Valley. I know it can feel like spitting into the wind sometimes, complaining about social issues -- but this particular ship is really and truly turning 🤗
