"President Donald Trump said he expects Saudi
Arabia and Russia to cut oil production by about 10 million
barrels after he spoke by phone with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman on Thursday" (Bloomberg).
Is there any truth to this?
If so, what did Trump promise whom?
The WTI oil price jumped up by 25% today, but now it is only up 19%. Apparently the market doubts the veracity of Trump's words.
"Putin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the Russian
president had not spoken to the crown prince. Saudi Arabia
called for an urgent meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, according to state-run media." (Bloomberg)
Still no evidence that Trump's tweet is true.

Rinat Akhmetov said that allegations of contacts with Manafort and Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian-intelligence-linked associate of Manafort, were "false" and that Manafort's work for Akhmetov's System Capital Management (SCM) ended over a decade ago.
Yes, this is in all probability correct. Manafort worked with Dmytro Firtash, Akhmetov's competitor in the Yanukovych circle. In the first half of 2005, Akhmetov hired Manafort to find him a better politician than Yanukovych. Manafort concluded that Yanukovych was the best.
Akhmetov din't like the answer, so Manafort went to work directly for Yanukovych. Akhmetov didn't like it a bit, but Yanukovych was still his favorite politician, so he swallowed the insult but was demoted by Manafort & Firtash.

The risk analyst Nassim Taleb, who published the book The Black Swan in 2007 about unpredictable events, has concluded that the coronavirus pandemic was a white swan. It was a perfectly preventable disaster. Sars in 2003 and the swine flu in 2009 etc. were so much better handled.
COVID-19 started in Wuhan in China. If China’s government had been open, it would have warned the world & isolated & cured the disease. But China is an authoritarian state, preferring secrecy, delaying the cure, and it did not call for international cooperation.
The world has a universal organization for health care, the World Health Organization (WHO), founded in 1948 with 192 members. It is supposed to set the standard for health care and be a global clearing house for medical information.

The US federal government dysfunction in the coronavirus pandemic has raised the question whether the US needs a 9/11 commission to investigate the sources. A few suggestions:
1. The main problem is the president himself, see the Washington Post:

2. The US needs to develop good international relations with both China & the EU so that it can cooperate early on & receive information & tests rather than just attacking.
3. The world needs a strong WHO for the next pandemic.
4. The extreme protectionism of FDA should be eased.
5. The fundamental problem is that US presidential powers are excessive. This is a constitutional crisis. With one-party majority in the senate & supreme court, a president can do what he wants regardless of laws.
6. The US state administration is dysfunctional & needs reform.
