Remember back in 2018, after Nunes memo, when all those former prosecutors on TV were passionately defending the FBI and FISA surveillance application process? It was exhaustively detailed, scrupulously honest, meticulous. Remember? 1/3
Now, investigations have shown that to be entirely wrong, and not just in Carter Page case. I don't think the former prosecutors were intentionally misleading. They were just totally wrong, and they put the prestige of their resumes behind arguments that were totally wrong. 2/3

NYT says before US can re-open, testing positive rate needs to get down to about 10 percent, which is maximum rate recommended by World Health Organization. And that will require far, far more testing than is going on today. 2/10
Because positive rate is 20 percent, NYT, citing Harvard researchers, says 'United States cannot safely reopen unless it conducts more than three times the number of coronavirus tests it is currently administering over the next month.' 3/10

Governors of New York and New Jersey, whose states together have more virus cases than any non-US country, are resisting question of whether they could have saved lives by shutting things down earlier. Just won't go there. 1/3
Baldly put, NY/NJ argument is that governors couldn't have shut things down earlier without a sufficient public fear level. If there weren't enough cases to make people afraid, then public would have scoffed at, ignored shutdown orders. 2/3
There might be something to that. Of course, it applies to national officials, too. But could a real leader have stirred up public fear when there were few cases, virus virtually invisible in some places? Made shutdown order stick? Unclear. Perhaps unlikely. 3/3
