Outstanding investigative @washingtonpost article about the US failure to deliver a coronavirus test. The basic problem was the extreme US protectionism of FDA. A normal free market country would have imported tests in January. FDA held up to March.

If this had been a normal, reasonably competent US administration, as under Bush or Obama, a top official would have cut through the bureaucracy, but the Trump officials did knew neither what was happening nor how to do it.
The US failure with coronavirus test should be a strong argument for freer trade in pharmaceuticals in the US. Why are not standard European drugs allowed in the US? Because of the absurdities of FDA, which now killed thousands of Americans.
