OK, I don’t care, I’ll admit it. That was moving.
It’s easy to forget just how embedded the Queen is in Britain’s living memory. Almost nobody alive remembers a time she wasn’t around. I don’t think we can imagine a time she won’t be.
Was both humbling and reassuring when she reminded us of her first broadcast to children facing the trauma of uncertainty and separation, 80 years ago - and when she reminded us we would meet again.
This is a radically different challenge from the Blitz with an entirely different enemy. We hope it will claim far fewer lives. But both involve quiet trials and turmoil for every family in this country, and immense bravery and generosity from uncelebrated heroes.
