I greatly respect @rcfp & have worked w/its lawyers for years. But I'm very disappointed it continues to criticize any Admin for prosecuting leakers of #classified info just bc they're "journalistic sources". Disclosures must be done lawfully or legal consequences follow.
It would be an entirely different issue if media representatives were being prosecuted for leaks, which they are not even though law allows it.

I rep journalists all the time & I am very protective of their job & #1stAmendent. But classified info should not be illegally leaked.
And, no, Assange and Wikileaks are not journalists.

You can easily substitute name "Trump" for "Nixon", except I don't yet know whether conclusion on dictatorship would be same.

This letter was written in 1995 by Archibald Cox, former Watergate Special Prosecutor. I wonder what his views would be of today's situation.
"You ask whether Richard Nixon could have become a dictator. My answer would be strongly negative. In the fall of 1973, there were a number of rumors that he might use the military to move strongly in that direction."

President Trump’s firing of Michael Atkinson is a direct assault on critical federal oversight mechanisms implemented in the wake of Watergate.
2/Independent inspectors general serve a crucial function in government oversight to hold officials, including the president, publicly accountable.
3/Atkinson’s firing cannot be interpreted as anything other than retaliation for his proper handling of the intelligence community whistleblower’s complaint.
