ICE is currently holding 498 children with their families at the 3 family detention centers, per court documents filed tonight.

The gov't says there are no confirmed coronavirus cases at the 3 centers. @RAICESTEXAS has asked a federal court to require ICE to release families.
There were also 2,988 unaccompanied migrant minors in Office of Refugee Resettlement custody as of Friday.

ORR has confirmed 5 cases of coronavirus among kids in its custody. There are also at least 18 "self-reports" of positive cases among workers at facilities for these kids.
Citing COVID-19, advocates are asking Judge Dolly Gee—who oversees Flores litigation—to order the release of kids who are not flight risks & don't pose a danger to themselves / others.

She said the gov't must justify their continued detention by Friday:

Per a Census Bureau estimate, 380,000 people in the U.S. reported having Nigerian ancestry.

In FY 2019, 6,700 Nigerians were granted immigrant visas to move to the U.S., per data compiled by @MigrationPolicy.

The term "public charge" dates back to 1882 — when the US actively sought to limit immigration from non-white countries.

That year, the US enacted the discriminatory Chinese Exclusion Act on the premise that Chinese immigrants jeopardized "the good order of certain localities."

NEW: Nine migrant parents who were deported from the U.S. after being separated from their children in 2017 and 2018 set foot on American soil once again late Wednesday night in a historic, court-mandated return.

For many of them, it was the 1st time in the U.S. outside the treacherous terrain of the southern border, cold Border Patrol cells and detention centers.

It was also their 2nd time on board a plane; the first being on a deportation flight with their arms bound by shackles.
"We all deserve an opportunity in life," Fernando, one the parents, told me after embracing his family for the 1st time in nearly 2 years.
