3. IAF Tigermoth arrives in UK workshop. Engine and top decking removed. ImageImageImage
4. So this is what you are left with after complete dismantle. Basic Fuselage then breaks down to basic frame and control box that runs between cockpit. Front seat bolts directly on to it ImageImageImage
5. After several months dismantling, NDT, examining the IAF Tigermoth was down to component parts. Most wood needed replacing, becoming brittle thru drying out. All metal fittings reused from wings. From here on in it will be pics of the rebuild!!! ImageImageImage
6. And so the rebuild started. New wood on top of refurbished fuselage frame. New control box on floor. New wood in the wings. We were up against time to make IAF 75th anniversary parade. @Chopsyturvey @warbirdsindia @ReviewVayu @ShivAroor @TheBrownBeagle @IAF_MCC @zone5aviation ImageImage
7. Amazing how quickly, with just the top decking, windscreens and instrument panel, the Tigermoth is recognisable . ImageImage
8. Work on wings happened alongside fuselage. All new wood including spars. Most fittings from original IAF Tigermoth. And of course 4 wings to do!!! Ideal moisture content for wood in structure is approx 17%. Original wood didn't even register. Much crumbled to touch. ImageImageImage
9. Original engine replaced after total rebuild. Covers fitted. Undercarriage legs on. IAF Tigermoth looked like an aircraft again. Still long way to go!!! Devil in the detail as always @TheBrownBeagle @Chopsyturvey @warbirdsindia @ReviewVayu @IAF_MCC @zone5aviation @ShivAroor ImageImage
