Entering the Holidays in a grim period, more on my grandpa following my tweets of the 7th. His Medal of Honor was from the French Government where he served with the American Expeditionary Forces. Name in lower left, twice. He was early into France.
My grandpa's identity card showing rank etc. and where he served. The group he went with were exceptional. Born in 1875 he was over 40, didn't have to do this. These people were brave.
This story, for those interested, depicts Base Hospital #30 where my grandpa served and based from. I can't even realize the reality of horror of those days in any real way. WWI was the 1st war where more died on the battlefield than of camp disease.

Before WWI grandpa knew this distinguished, famous gent. A friend & neighboring doctor with the legendary Saxton Pope, who doctored Ishi--photo from Pope's classic book, Hunting with the Bow and Arrow. Pope made a name inscribed yew bow for my aunt which I still treasure.
