Important to remember that it's not at all necessary for 10% of the population to be living in fear of financial ruin while facing the prospect of agonizing death.

This was a decision by corporations and businesses to put their own interest ahead of their workers.
That we don't frame it as corporate cruelty, that we just keep pretending THIS IS HOW IT HAS TO BE is just madness.

These are business decisions to throw people into chaos and deny them benefits and security.

We have to completely reframe how we discuss this sadism.
Sure. Small businesses and the like are closing. But that doesn't account for 10% of the population. These are massive corporations that would be fine taking the same hit as other massive corporations, but it's a matter of finding advantage and actively wanting to streamline.
And here's what people have to realize: the winnowing down of employees is about probing to find the minimum number of employees you can juice for maximum production.

Pandemic panic has given so many of these corporations cover to layoff employees without the PR blowback.
Not to mention the corporations that are pushing employees to rely on federal assistance as a means of guarding their own bottom lines. This has been the basis of corporate welfare for decades and is accepted, widespread practice.

Just cruelty by another name.
