Over 3.4 million people live in San Diego County. 36 have died, "due to coronavirus" (though these death attributions may be inaccurate). So about 1 per every 100,000 residents. But now all gatherings are banned, including to pray socially distanced on Easter. Govt. overreach!
From Catholic priest in San Diego County today:
San Diego County (& other counties including Riverside and San Bernardino, to which my firm & @Liberty_Ctr sent demand letters last night) allows you to go to the pharmacy or the take-out, but NOTHING ELSE including Catholic confession. Or socially distanced Easter. Absurd!

Your friends are wrong. This argument stems from a bad decision by SCOTUS called Employment Division v. Smith. It needs to be revisited. Even under Smith, a law must be of “neutral application” — but where religious institutions have a lesser status than alcohol/pot, not neutral.
And besides that many states have a religious freedom restoration act in response to SMITH, which restores the high hurdle the government must meet to burden religion. Kentucky has such a law. We used to have a federal law like this but SCOTUS struck it down.
SCOTUS imposes broad abortion availability on all states but not religious freedom. That doesn’t mean the CONSTITUTION places religion into a second class status — it means a group of justices did, and that can change. And it should. And meanwhile “neutral application” applies!

If w/in a few weeks millions could be out of work & untold thousands of businesses forced to close in California alone, as a result of the due-process/cost-benefit-analysis-free total shutdown of a major world economy, how many people will suffer mental health breakdowns/suicide?
Speaking as a small business owner, a lot of one's self-worth & dignity is tied up in having a business, having a job, having a way to pay the mortgage, the rent, the kids' bills. A small check from the government or a loan, is no replacement. And for what? Where's the analysis?
The answer is many of the people who made these decisions never had a business, never signed the FRONT of a paycheck, never built anything, never worried about payroll...instead pulled down a gov't paycheck & worried about the next election, not the devastation of their choices.

1/As a San Francisco resident and business owner, I’m wondering—can I trust the health judgments of leaders who let thousands live on the streets in their filth? And if we are now getting homeless into shelter, why couldn’t that have happened earlier? Doesn’t their health count?
2/ All of a sudden we are supposed to accept 24-hour curfews “for your own safety” from people who order the police to stand down when Antifa & friends beat the hell out of taxpayers; people who refuse to enforce laws they don’t like (death penalty, bail, property crimes) .../
3/ City leaders who literally give wanted alien criminals a public heads up when ICE is about to conduct raids are now telling me what’s best, declaring a death penalty for businesses, no hearings or due process?! Forgive me if I don’t fall right into line with the fascism .../
