We are tired of supporting the tourism businesses with tax payers money. It means that the sector is not sustainable. Almost 60 years after independence, it shouldn't still be using taxpayers as a crutch.

Developed countries don't have ministries of tourism. They just boost their arts sectors and protect their environment, and tourists come. They have just a directorate the coordinates the tourism side.

That's the model we should adapt.
The world's top tourism countries do not market their natural wildlife. It is their cultural landmarks that people go to see. France even has a visa for researchers because every summer, American researchers flood the country to visit their archives all over the country.
Every summer I get an email from a scholar coming to visit Kenya for research. Or people wanted to do study abroad here. But because of the madharao of GoK for us scholars and their worship of hunters and animal killers, they haven't looked into this group of visitors.
We still don't have a decent conference center where we can hold international academic conferences. KICC is dated, is in the middle of CBD which has a big traffic problem and is not within walking distance of affordable hotels.
Another county needs to invests long term in conference facilities. Nairobi is too adhoc, confused and congested. Now it has been grabbed to make it the throne of the Kenyatta's. I don't see how Nairobi can help on this front.
The ministry of culture should be supporting an arts festival circuit and creating a calendar of events. It should make sports events easier to attend, surrounded by adequate accommodation and parking. Stadiums in the middle of the city and without such spaces are unhelpful.
With air bnb, the model of tourism of big hotels and of billionaire hunters with sick fantasies is dying and we should not still be investing in it. Support a vibrant Kenyan cultural life, and the tourists will come. Tourism of animals and no people belongs to the 19th century.

We have to understand that this government doesnt have any policy in mind apart from tourism and real estate. And in 1961, Frantz Fanon warned us that the evidence of the intellectual bankruptcy of our elites is their obsession with the relaxation of wazungu.
To focus on the relaxation of foreigners and the dollars they will bring, the native elites behave as if we Africans don't exist. Whether we're being murdered, we're getting sick, the job of GoK is to put a front to the rest of the world that Kenya is open for dollars.
In 2008 during PEV, the government and the media was not worried about Kenyans being killed; it was worried that tourists might see us fighting and think we're n---'s like other African countries. When PEV ended, Kibaki's first job was to wash Kenya's reputation for tourists.

Many people say that the cornerstone of capitalist imperialism is profit. I would argue that it is not profit but alienation. By alienation, I mean the separation of who people are from their reality and their work.

Power and profit depend on that separation.

Capitalism has then reduced education to training bureaucrats to facilitate that separation. That is why, if you notice, being in school is an experience of constant violence to prevent you from being in touch with your relatives, your humanity and reality.
The simplest example: remember what happened when you got sick in boarding school? The brutality that followed? The point is to teach you to ignore your personhood and your needs, to always worship and follow instructions even if it kills you doing it.

We are witnessing a worrying trend where universities are offering applied skills but cutting down on the training in the actual skills. The UK, especially, offers many more scholarships in these applied fields rather than in the fields themselves.

A few examples.
Communication is applied arts, yani using artistic techniques to communicate. But few universities offer arts programs themselves, and pirate sector and GoK are at the forefront of fighting the arts. That means, for example, film makers study cameras but not stories.
This means that the film industry will keep struggling to tell stories that capture the Kenyan imagination. And that we will never see biopics or our history on screen, because film makers don't study history anyway. History is "irrelevant to the market."
