Governor Sani Bello made the announcement at a press briefing in Minna shortly after an emergency meeting with the COVID-19 committee.
He announced that the complete lockdown of the state starting from Monday, April 13, for two weeks with the exemption of those on special duties and essential services especially is to afford the agency to conduct contact tracing and curb the spread.

The people are therefore allowed to replenish their household essentials, on the following days, Thursday 16th April, Monday 20th April, Thursday 23rd April and Monday 27th April 2020 from 6 AM to 6 PM, adding that the window is not for social or religious activities...

...adding he didn't get access to his family on return but has endangered those he traveled with in the same vehicle as well as other neighbors.
The Limawa Area in Minna has since been put under quarantine and the response team would carry out contact tracing extensively in the community and its environs to ensure that the virus did not spread.
He stated that all public and religious gatherings in churches and mosques have been suspended until further notice. Interstate and intrastate of movement remained banned within this period.
He further directed that all civil servants unless those on essential services are to stay at and if possible work from home and only Niger State Transport Authority vehicles will be available or deployed for emergency services as all parks are expected to remain closed.
The Governor also announced that his government will equip all the 12 isolations centers across the state in preparation for cases that may arise, health workers would also be engaged at strategic points with thermometers to carry out regular temperature tests.
Governor Abubakar Bello said the state government is liaising with local tailors association in the state for production of face masks in view of the scarcity of the items.
The NGSG has since commenced the distribution of palliatives at ward level to those affected by the restrictions. He appreciated those who have made donations to the state government and encourage others to contribute their quota in making this period bearable for the people.
The Governor urged all Niger State Citizens to remain calm and follow instructions given by the state government and @NCDCgov. Wash their hands frequently, stay at home and maintain social distance.
