A way to solve this problem (assuming that’s the actual desire) vs. fan flames and escalate would be to simply ask: “is this a mistake? What is the reasoning behind this? Can this please be re-visited?”
Here is the order itself. There is no mention of car seats or anything for babies in this order. See section 11. It is basically left to the stores to determine what is essential. This is to cut down on traffic and this potential exposure. michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309…
So actually the first step to solving the problem isn’t asking those questions. It’s: 1. Pausing 2. Thinking 3. Researching the Facts. Then, if the answer still isn’t clear, ask questions (starting with the store).
I would also like to point out that this is an opportunity for the public to be a helpful, good faith partner to our public servants as we wade through an event that hasn’t happened in 102 years.
Similar things come up in Ohio, and the way I’ve seen it handled thus far is: ppl contact local news; journalists respectfully point out/ask something during the daily brief with the governor; governor or his team say “I hadn’t thought of that, let me ask and get back to you.”
