The absurdity of Trump's hyping of his "travel ban" on China is escaping notice.

* Vast bulk of Trump's failures unfolded after he imposed those restrictions

* Trump repeatedly praised China's handling of virus in order to downplay the threat

Trump's early praise of China's handling of coronavirus wasn't simply about maintaining good relations.

It was also *crucial to Trump's early spin that he, too, had the virus under control in the US.*

On top of all this, Trump's attacks on the World Health Organization are absurdly dishonest -- and even dangerous.

Something very important is happening in Virginia.

The Dem takeover of state government, fueled by anti-Trump fervor, is now allowing for the first big reversal of what the Tea Party wave wrought:

* Voting rights
* gun reforms
* ACA expansion

Virginia sits at the nexus of Trump-era trends -- demographic shifts, Dem gains in the suburbs.

Now the gains from those trends are reversing the gains of the 2010 Tea Party ascendancy.

Dems hope this is a model for more state-level gains to come:

It's often debated whether the Democratic gains in the suburbs could ultimately undercut progressive possibilities.

All Trump has left is creating the *appearance* of action.

* Authorizes governors to do what's already in their control

* Forces execs to join conference calls that have no real purpose

* Falsely claims our testing is greatest in the world

Here's the problem with these conference calls: The *bad faith.*

The temptation for corporate execs to toe the line and buttress Trump's insistence that reopening the economy is safe, and that testing is scaled up to make it possible, must be very great:

I've compiled a side-by-side comparison of the reaction to coronavirus by Trump and the World Health Organization.

The timeline is utterly, comprehensively damning to Trump.

What it shows about him is far worse than what it shows about WHO.

Trump is not just attacking WHO. He's also using his attacks to present himself as a champion of empiricism, effective crisis management, and accountability.

This would be positively comical if he hadn't presided over such a monumental catastrophe:
