1. It is six (6) years already, since the abduction of April 14th, 2014 In Government Secondary School (GSS) Chibok, where 503 students were on School extension writing their Final High School Exams (WAEC/NECO)
#6YearsTooLong #ChibokStory
2. The School is the only high School in the entire LGA and the community requested as it be turned to Co-education School for male students to also have access because of the closeness to their farming communities.
3. Thus; the reason of having large number of students in that school at the time of abduction. Many have questioned that, it wasn't possible to have that large number of students in a Village School. Note: The Chibok is a missionary hub, they started education early and still do
4. Since the 14th of April 2014, Chibok has never been the same again, our lives changed with that singular attack that touched many and was the deal breaker for how the terrorism war taken as affecting fringes of the nation changed. #ChangeTheNarratives
5. Many were not aware even in Chibok that the target of attack was the School and to purposely abduct Final year high school students schooling in Chibok. #ChangeTheNarratives
6. The local intelligence about an impending attack on a community came as early as 9:45 PM when the first called was placed to political leaders by locals on sighting terrorists toward the Sambisa gathering and armed planning at attack. #ChangeTheNarratives
7. The Military and police formations were all notified, and were set and ready to confront the terrorists through a planned ambush (according to them), since the direction of approach was known as reported by the Locals. #ChangeTheNarratives
8. The LGA Chairman and the Member representing Chibok LGA at the Borno State House of Assembly was quickly reached for them to liaise with the Chief security Officer of the State then, Former Governor @Kashimshettima for prompt action. #ChangeTheNarratives
9. The calls continued from all concerned leaders of the community to those they could reach, security officer, concerned politicians from other places for reinforcement. #ChangeTheNarratives
10. Nothing happened; no soldier or Police was added to the about 17 soldiers and less than 20 police officers then stationed in the LGA. #ChangeTheNarratives
11. By 11;40 PM about 12 midnight they came in three different directions taking the already stationed soldiers and policemen off guard. They scampered for safety in different direction without remembering there were girls in a School next to them. #ChangeTheNarratives
12. Many thought the Schools were even closed, unknown to some, the Children were on their final year High School WAEC and NECO exams. Some had gaps waiting for the last paper & got permission to go home, 503 students registered for WAEC/NECO for that year, 80 were male students
13. The School was initially “Girls only high School” but the Community leaders pleaded with Borno State Govt. to have Co-Education to help the Male students who also have no other Secondary School in the Whole of the LGA to Attend. #ChangeTheNarratives
14. They cycled the School, assembled those girls that couldn’t run and jump the fence. Those whose hostels were closer to the Staff Quarters towards the town and those in the quarters were able to escape southwest part of the School toward Whuntaku ward of Chibok and escaped
15. This shows the School is actually at the periphery of the Chibok town and first point of call for the Boko haram terrorists after chasing the Soldiers and Police in few minutes. #ChangeTheNarrative
16. The soldiers escaped toward the CBS (Chibok Bible School) and waited there, until the sun was out the next morning. One was not lucky because in process of escape from the superior fire powers of the Boko Haram Terrorists, he jumped through a fence and broke his neck.
17. We found him in the morning, turned him up, got his details, and took his Uniforms (some removed their uniforms before escaping), gun and magazines of some of them and took it to the DPO. #ChangeTheNarrative
18. The DPO was first to report at the burning site of the school, & cautioned all of us not to come near, because there might be some explosives still thrown around not to match on. We helped him gathered what could be seen on ground while the Hostels were still burning & empty
19. At that point no one knew how many where abducted, how many were able to escape home or to houses of their relatives and guardians. We were all blank and confused and no one seems to take lead. #ChangeTheNarrative
20. The Principal wasn’t in the School, we later found according to the State government that “she was on a sick leave” which many of us thought to be lie, but was their usual way of not taking the school serious at all.
21. Two Vice principals in the school, but one stays in town, while the other was in the Quarters at the time of the attacks, none of them was informed of any intelligence before the attack according them, while the parents and some of the girls blamed the VP 2,
22. who escaped from the quarters with no idea of what happened behind, my comment was, unless previously informed & no action taken, even Soldiers armed scampered for their lives. The girls fell victim of poor coordination of information & security measures (initial believe).
23. They packed the girls and threaten to kill anyone that attempt to escape. The they went to town, burn some houses, took 7 cars and one truck (911) loaded with food stuff from the market and looted shops in Chibok and went to load the girls for onward journey to Sambisa region
24. No resistance from anywhere between the time of attack and their flight to Sambisa. No Immediate follow up in the morning. By 9am to 10, no government officials at sight but parents who were close by and knew they had daughters in the school. #ChangeTheNarrative
25. I and few youths advocated for setting up immediate crises management desk for parents to start document their daughters to know who was missing. Nothing was done because of the confusion and absence of officials until noon.
26. No one could account for how many escaped through the night, because girls were still appearing from every side. The reason for the delay of getting accurate number of the missing girls,
27. and 85girls was first reported until after three days before getting the actual 219. By then, 57 had escaped and went straight to their Villages without proper profiling.
28. The false Narrative started by Nigerian Army spokesman who reported that all the girls were rescued remaining few 8?, thank God for the presence of Aljazeera team who were with me at Chibok reporting live. I countered him and others did same from Abuja, and the altercation st
29. Police, DSS, Army all had different figures of missing persons, and the Media was ready to listen to them than us, the direct end feelers of the unfortunate abduction. We had no name, face, or titles, whatever we said were lies because we were not of any authority.
30. Thank God for the Media houses, CNN, Aljazeera, NYT, BBC (radio and TV), Lamonde, SABN, France 24 Channels TV, TVC, Leadership, The Nation, Daily trust and many others pinned the story to their Dash boards and refused to let go. #ChangeTheNarratives
31. Since then, I have been cross-crossing Abuja and Chibok with different media platforms to ensure people get to know the truth and speaks from informed angles. #ChangeTheNarratives
33. The Media sustained the Campaign and some key individuals, who were already angry that Buni Yadi happened, such as Dr @Obyezeks were already demanding for action before the birth of #BringBackOurGirls 15 days after the abduction, 30th April, 2014.
34. The governor claimed, he had no response from the Presidency and the fact that the State was under state of emergency; there was nothing he could do. And truly, nothing was done as far as pursue and rescue was concerned. #ChangeTheNarratives
35. Parents, Friends and relatives along with Vigilantes gathered and insist on pursuing the insurgents, some even went so far to extent of seeing the insurgents from afar, but the soldiers Came from Damboa and stopped them from moving further, and they also stood still.
36. The control started, and the blame game soared and we were left with the burden of proof that girls were abducted, with all the security personnel present, no single authentic data was made available to the government they represents.
36. The Merchants of Conspiracy theories started postulations and struggled to shift the truth from the real and the citizen’s indifference and fault-lines confused many the more. We were called named especially by those in power thinking it was attack on their government.
37. The #BringBackOurGirls was the saving grace of the Chibok Community by remaining consistent and steadfast in the pursuit for truth and action for their rescue. BBOG bailed out the Chibok Community who initially marched to the Villa and their leaders were arrested locked
38. Many were arrested and kept in detentions the night before the “CHAI” saga by the former first Lady, had 1001 ways of fact checking the abduction, but refused.
39. The counting began, and today is 6 years since they were abducted, with 112 still missing out of the 219 that reached the Sambisa forest. We have been waiting six years on #ChangeTheNarratives
40. We pleaded with the Former president @GEJonathan to Visit Chibok, interact with the parents and see the community and the devastation of the School, nothing happened. #ChangeTheNarratives
40. Even when Visit was scheduled and advanced had reached Chibok and I went there with the Fact Finding Committee team of General Sabo, He failed to come, but Flew abroad instead. (Another undoing of himself)
41. The Community nominated me and 4 others to draft memo for the Fact Finding Committee, we did, we spoke to the team as individuals and as group of Community representatives, they got the details and our misgivings and where we thought some people should be investigated for
42. negligence, inaction, indifference and abuse of their positions, Nothing Happened.
42. The report was presented, but never released for the public, even when the committee was publicly presented to the public and sponsored with Tax payers money.
43. Demanding for the full report became a crime of @BBOG_Nigeria and the Chibok Community. We were labelled, tagged “Terrorist sympathizers, Psychological terrorist by the former government of @GEJonathan and worst by the Present Government of @Mbuhari.
44. The Two government thought @BBOG_Nigeria was for turning, they thought the group was for sale and "transactional", when that didn’t happened, they became hostile, non-responsive and non-receptive, and blinded to all form of advice, empathy and all reasonableness.
45. Contrary to all initial believes, the abduction in Chibok was planned and this revelation was made possible through an Amira that later repented and got rehabilitated as fighter that was part of initial two meetings before the abducted, which took place in Damboa by BHT leads
46. There were lot of crude intelligence through rescued or escaped victims who saw and reported their encounters with the Chibok girls, but no concerted action specifically targeted to ensure their rescue.
46. Even two months back, I spoke with a Lady that escaped from Boko haram with clothes she borrowed from one of the Chibok girls on her body. She told me sometimes they could see the lights from Maiduguri from where she escaped from.
47. The visit of @BBOG_Nigeria and the Chibok Community to President @Mbuhari in July 2015 and February 2016 Changed everything about the initial believe that there was a difference between the two, there is non in actual sense.
50. Our demand has been, make it a priority, talk to the Parents periodically, update them and add to their hopes. Open up to them on those who are not alive as reported by the rescued 21 and 82 girls. Let them have closure, even if it is one family.
51. This will strike your open nerves; the School is still not in use. It has been under construction Sept. 2014, #PMGordonbrown own went to Chibok and launched the Safe School Initiatives and many Nations donated, yet, the school is not completed. SSI need to be investigated pls
53. PCNI under General TYD was asked to complete the school, the Nigerian Army Engineers were contacted to handle, the cleared the rubble and built some structures and interlocked the School, and then Locked it for storms to keep peeling off the roofs repeatedly.
53. The rest of the Student of that School now received lectured in shared classes with Central Primary School students in Chibok. The Chibok School plan according to Gordon Brown, the former UK PM was to be a model of Safe School to show Boko haram we are opposite in ideals
54. Many young people dropped out because no other school close by, and some parents cannot afford schools far away. Only few Children of IDPs then in Kuje that benefited from the School Transfer program, component of the Safe School Initiatives.
55. Some of the girls, the 57 were sponsored by the State Government under @Kashimshettima to some Schools in Jos and Katsina, and many graduated with entry qualifications. 10 were supported to America by a couple and an American based Nigerian Mr Emmanuel Ogebe
Most those in the US have since graduated from University, and are doing well; some are specializing in other disciplines. Talking with them always will reveal how transformed they are, and full of dreams. #ChiangeTheNarratives
57. The rescued ones 21 +82+3 were sent to school in AUN in Yola Adamawa State, under scholarship by the Federal Government. Former VP@ Atiku Abubakar also gave Scholarship to 17 initially out of those that escaped from the school before abduction and the rescues started.
58. We as community members along with well spirited individuals secured scholarships for five from vulnerable families amongst them, including first to escape, Amina Ali Nkeki, but some highly corrupt individuals with no intention of supporting these girls to schools in the US
59. connived with the security officials and blocked the girls at Abuja Airport and frustrated their journey to California under scholarship by Church of the Servant King.
60. They returned back to continue with their remedial program in AUN, which is now three years & they don’t know what exactly they are doing. They haven’t written WAEC/NECO, they have not been enrolled in the University, and are still kept away from the rest of the Students.
61. This certainly is not right and favourable for rehabilitation and learning by association and other social benefits of interaction with their contemporaries and age mates
62. They asked why severally, but no favourable response from anyone until they recently planned a demonstration and packed their bags to head home. #ChangeTheNarratives #6YearsTooLong
63. The School authority told them, those who need to write may/June or Nov/Dec should indicate, which means they are still in High school waiting to write exams. I am not against that, as it was visible that, they were highly deficient due to poor learning facilities, Teachers,
64. and more that defines what standard and qualitative education is, beyond what they used to have in the burnt School, turning out nothing educationally. #ChangeTheNarratives
65. Their classmates in America proofed otherwise, that faster transformation, rehab and learning is possible with complete change from what was obtainable in their school before they were attacked by BHT. #ChangeTheNarrative
65. This is my anger, when PM #Gordon Brown visited Chibok, he offered to take all the set of the students to UK School under the sponsorship of UN Parliament, the State governor then opposed it and promised to take care of their education to degree level. That didn’t happen.
66. @BBOG_Nigeria had many individuals and organisations with readiness to adopt by sponsoring the girls to school, all of them, as they were getting rescued, but all reasonable access was blocked by the Government
67. The succeeded in keeping the girls, their parents, and leadership away from the BBOG that first facilitated their coming to Abuja for interaction with the Government.
68. Even the 10 that were sponsored to US school mainly, through the Church were asked to be brought back, if not for General TYD that later got the report and insisted they stay there and complete their education.
68. The odds against the people, the land and the Girls were deeper than what was presented. Many would not understand why that would be so, and why would public officials antagonize poor girl from accessing Scholarship in the United State, and under the Church sponsorship?
69. The Polarizations from BBOG, KADA/Chibok Community was sustained, until the parents were lost thereafter, when the government kept them away and did nothing to them, they started calling back asking, what is the government saying about their daughters?
69. The demand was for them to take the front line of the struggle for rescue as parents, because it is their right for their daughters to be rescued now and alive, not a favor by anyone. They understood that very late, and regretted trusting those who later let them down.
70. Another question for antagonizing @BBOG_Nigeria is, when the rehab of the girls was asked to be transparent with family input and accountability on the UNFA’s donation of $2,000,000 dollars. No one knows what happened, and I can tell you, many are still dealing with PTSD.
71. Only 97 are still at AUN in Yola, as many have dropped out due lack of proper transformation through rehab and new learning techniques. Three got married last week, out of the over 10 that dropped out of the program at AUN, Yola
72. Many told me they may not go back to AUN again because, they don’t understand what they are doing their. Three years waiting to rewrite WAEC/NECO or what?
73. For my Humanitarian Community, many failed me, having facilitated community liaising with my State, they never tried reaching Chibok for Humanitarian works, it ended in Maiduguri and environs. Few, Adopt a Camp of @Bukkyshonebare well done, we did well.
73. Chibok was painted as “red” NO-GO-ZONE, but we never left our land for once, we remained with all the attacks. The people refused to stay in Camps; they stayed with friends and families instead.
75. My first needs assessment survey was made available to several NGOs, who promised to go, but they never went. @UNFPA, @UNmigration and few others tried. NERI, with support of USAIDS also tried especially in education.
76. Today the @UNHAS assisting with Choppers/ Helicopters are accessing and dropping Humanitarian workers to places like Banki, Rann, Monguno, Ngala, Damboa, Pulka, Gwoza (where I went for needs assessment before any NGO, Local or Intl), but Not Chibok and Askira Uba t
77. With the entire loud name for the wrong reason though (abduction of the girls), No Humanitarian hub in Chibok still, and very little to show as works of the INGO and UN organs, very little. Why?
78. The first relief when I had to ask @FatimaBana of Like-minds project to support the 7800 household displaced from Damboa east but as Chibok Peaking ethnic group that relocated to Chibok was the first aid to Chibok.
79. The former NEMA DG said n air that he sent 60 trucks of rice to Chibok during GEJ, till today the trucks are still on their way to Chibok 6 years after, I guess, part of the scam in the name of Chibok.
80. One of the Federal Government agencies that need serious combing and investigation by the anti graft agencies is NEMA,
For the few Organizations that helped traveled with me to Chibok with aids, @FKMohammed1 and her Like-mind Projects, @BukkyShonibare and her #Adop-A-Camp, thank you.
So many Journalists spent days in Chibok working to change the false narratives and open the truth @chikaoduah #Ahmed Idris of Aljazeera, @IamIshaSesay (while with CNN), @YvonneNdege with Aljazeera, @Jack_Vince77 well done all. Your voices in the 6 years has been loud enough.
84. The war on terror is still on, many are still missing, people are still displaced, and others are still getting abducted and killed, including our fighting forces. The time to increase the frequency of voices in demand for action from our government more and more.
85. #ChibokGirls abduction had revealed so many thing wrong with our government, our security forces and our intelligence community. We must not allow that to be the norm, the reason all hands must be on deck to join @BBOG_Nigeria counter the false narratives &change d dialogue.
No government is completely useless, anyone had their points of strength, but generally, our style of governance and the government responses to the plight of the poor people is abhorring to say the least and must be discountenance through our active demands. #ChangeTheNarratives
