I want to thank Hiawatha National Bank for helping me obtain an SBA PPP loan to help my law firm deal with the COVID shutdown. With trials, depositions, motions, hearings, arbitrations, mediation, new projects delayed, the shutdown has been devastating to the legal industry...
2/ And when my own bank of 15 years, @WellsFargo, has been a total mess, or worse, in helping its existing, excellent credit small business clients get loans (I don't know of a single one personally), smaller community banks around the country stepped up and it was such a relief!
I also want to thank @realDonaldTrump for his emphasis on keeping Americans safe and now, getting us back to work ASAP as soon as it makes sense for each region. The job losses and economic pain are killing small business & hurting the 60 million plus Americans who work there.
Time to get American back to work again and make the American economy great again!!! We must keep vulnerable Americans safe and avoid spreading the Wuhan virus but also get back to our lives as we knew them, with family, faith, freedom & opportunity at the forefront of our minds!

1/Pastors in Sonoma County were told by county leaders yesterday on a call that their churches would not be permitted to open until September, at the earliest. That's more than six months of the government telling churches and people of faith in California how they may worship: /
2/Many parts of Sonoma County and indeed, much of the interior of the state, is rural with limited or no broadband readily available. Religious organizations are based on regular meetings, in whatever manner, of the faithful. That is how the connect and renew their faith, & draw/
3/ Solace and comfort during difficult times, inspiration, hope, guidance, meaning at all times. To tell tens of millions of people of faith in California that they are not permitted to worship together, even using the same social distancing protocols "essential businesses"/

The @Liberty_Ctr filed for a TRO in our suit against California and local officials for discriminating against religious institutions. State ban assigns faith to a 2d class status, below WalMart, pot stores, laundromats, alcohol stores, & other loopholes libertycenter.org/update-center-…
By creating a swiss cheese scheme rife w/arbitrary exceptions, arbitrarily enforced, CA does not meet constitutional standards for laws that burden religion. California dictates that faithful may only "gather" & pray via Zoom. This nation was founded on freedom of worship/
And there is no rational reason to apply a different standard to faithful and faith organizations than for other essential needs. We are asking the court to require California to apply an equal standard to gatherings. Now more than ever, many Californians view faith as essential!

Your friends are wrong. This argument stems from a bad decision by SCOTUS called Employment Division v. Smith. It needs to be revisited. Even under Smith, a law must be of “neutral application” — but where religious institutions have a lesser status than alcohol/pot, not neutral.
And besides that many states have a religious freedom restoration act in response to SMITH, which restores the high hurdle the government must meet to burden religion. Kentucky has such a law. We used to have a federal law like this but SCOTUS struck it down.
SCOTUS imposes broad abortion availability on all states but not religious freedom. That doesn’t mean the CONSTITUTION places religion into a second class status — it means a group of justices did, and that can change. And it should. And meanwhile “neutral application” applies!
