Lets play a game called "so you think you 'herd immunity' is a great idea when it comes to COVID-19 huh!?"
First, you need about 90 percent immunity to achieve "herd immunity" which almost always requires a vaccine to prevent mass infection incidents. This also assumes that you cannot be reinfected, which is not completely clear with COVID right now.
Second, this also assumes that a large swath of the population will have only minor symptoms, and one CDC report has found that 20 percent of those hospitalized were millennials alone. cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/6…
Third, when the hospitals are swamped with "the herd" that is sick you better hope you are not someone who is suffering other chronic conditions or diseases such as cancer, diabetes, etc. etc. because there will not be room for you in the hospital or you may not want to go there.
Fourth, I hope you aren't pregnant when the hospitals are swamped. They'll hopefully be able to make room for you when you go into labor, but you will be in "COVID Central."
If you want to see how herd immunity is going check out South Dakota with Governor Kristi "Let Everyone Get Infected with Covid" Noem where they literally have at least 300 people infected at one worksite in Sioux Falls alone: washingtonpost.com/national/south…
Finally, if you think herd immunity is a great idea, then you should be the first to volunteer. Be smart, socially distance, and be healthy!
Update, over 600 people infected with COVID alone at that worksite. You can thank @govkristinoem for being more concerned about meat production than humans for that one.
