They still have no clue that the nation creates its own currency every single time Congress authorizes spending. They still haven't tied the billions of Military Spending and the simultaneous tax cuts together... That light bulb moment still hasn't happened.
They still can't figure out how reconcile the nation suddenly has trillions to give corporations and citizens without raising taxes. They still think we "borrow money from China". From program to program this message has not stuck... Even with most progressives... .
Most still actually believe that taxes are paying these things. They cannot break apart the paradigm and the very separate and unrelated acts of Federal taxing and spending.
With the DNC putting the sleeper hold on Sanders and leaving us with no real focal leader for this movement... someone who can advance bold policy proposals...."Austerity Joe" will cut programs and raise taxes.
He will do another neoliberal, ACA style set of programs then decry the costs. Hit a fiscal cliff and start demanding deficit reduction... That's if Biden has a prayer of defeating Trump. (Pro Tip: he won't beat Trump)
So the key lessons about the economy will continue to matter and continue/become a struggle for life or death if we continue to fail to educate those in power. This failing directly affects the lives of the poor.
We are seeing the middle class evaporate and leaving a staggering wealth gap between the top earners/savers/investors/rentiers and the bottom half of wage earners.
Remember.... They will continue to fight tax wars to obfuscate our ability to do great things and deny people the services and bold policy space they need and failing to address climate change and healthcare.
Bernie or no Bernie... We don't have time to cry in our milk. We need to remember that organizing, educating, advocacy and direct action are the tools we have left now that the electoral process is so thoroughly hijacked.
