taking cue from @visualfumble and live tweeting S01 of four more shots please. What is this god awful show? Starts with a steamy scene b/w Sanghi Soman and Sayani Gupta. In front of a conference room full of buncles. Yes, that is her dream.
And then we meet mad hot gym trainer Bani who has to cuss 4657 times per second and fucks a guy in her gym who already has a girlfriend coz apparently #feminism ?!
Next, single mom hotshot lawyer Kriti whose name in the show is Anjana Menon. She speaks in Hindi with her 'achha' and 'amma' coz you know, #malayali Alecc maire. Thendis getting vadaks to play mallus 😡😡😡😡
Last, Manvi whose mom keeps fatshaming her and insists on finding a rich ass husband for her daughter so that she can show off to her SoBo frenemies. Tbh I quite like her. Just that the best this show can do for a "fat" woman is someone who is not skinny. Ufff. More tomorrow
WHO IS MAKING THE MUSIC FOR THIS SHOW? Why does it sound like some desi Taylor swift? Why is desi Taylor swift playing a song when Manvi is punching a guy?!
Ah a show on feminism where you hate the woman your ex husband is dating instead of hating on your unfit ex husband. What is feminism without internalised misogyny?
Ok good things about this show: Has a bisexual main character, good back story. It's nice to see working class folks shown as caring wrt to Julie didi and how she plays a solid influence in Manvi's life.
Biggest problem with this show? It's too 'girl boss'. Who is a girl boss? Someone who is okay with a fascist, capitalist, exploitive status quo as long as women are in power 50% of the time. Super savarna. Basically Priyanka Chopra.
Is Prateek Babar automated? I think a cardboard with biceps can act better. Why can't anyone on this show act??
Major BTN in all the sex scenes. The orgasms are so fake that even my exes wouldn't believe them.
Somebody better tell me who made the music. I need to sock them asap.
Are you really a feminist if you haven't shouted "vaginaaaa" from Marine drive with your girlfriends? #girlboss
The whole show feels so insincere. Bad acting, bad dialogues. Especially Sayani. Which Indian investigative journalist has dressed or spoken like this?! Why maa?
Ok it's like I need a separate tweet thread to talk about the real life parallels they draw. Here is one

🅱️Adani Image
Waiting for #girlboss Sayani's next exposé on 🅱️ukesh 🅱️ambani
OMG so Sayani has OCD so she doesn't let men spend the night at her place because she builds a 'cocoon' around herself when she sleeps. When Prateek is going to leave after their bangings, she asks him to stay.
Prateek: what about your cocoon?
Sayani: You can be my cocoon.
If I haven't mentioned this enough times already, THE MUSIC IS HORRIBLE!! Was this music made by the same person who made Masakali 2?
So #girlboss lawyer and single mom drives her sick child to the hospital when she's drunk and crashes the car. The dad says he's going to take full custody of the child coz mom is irresponsible. And SHE slaps HIM??? Ma'am?!

Me rn:
Ok S1 is done and so am I. But I'm persistent and love to put myself through shit so here I come S2
Joke by my 🅱️oyfriend @ShirtShanks
DID THEY JUST GO TO ISTANBUL BECAUSE MANVI HAD A BREAKDOWN?! bc my friends can't even come to Indiranagar when I have a breakdown coz we all #broke is this the life of rich people?! Can a rich person confirm??
Is Prateek Babar's gf's name MYRA?! AHAHAHAHA. OMG the vadaks have outdone themselves. Where is my Tamil Twitter?
Manvi is doing stand up?! Was that supposed to be a roast? And wow @vineeth_sri you didn't tell me you were in the show! Image
I forgot to tweet the rest of the show!! But I will because why should I suffer alone?
So update. At this point #girlboss Sayani is writing her own book on the murder of "Judge Damodar" (my condolences to the Caravan team), after drunk driving, getting her daughter into an accident and slapping her ex husband, Kriti has cut down drinking to once a week (???)...
... And her ex decided to not take the child away and she's dating her office intern (!!!), Bani is still sad about her breakup with her Bollywood star gf, Manvi, after failing at baking and other professions, has turned into a stand up comic with an unfunny man.
Ok actually I give up

Exactly a year ago, at this time, I was rushing home from my grandpa’s funeral to get my dad admitted to a hospital before Bangalore ran out of beds.

A day later I was scrambling for an oxygen cylinder, pooling my family’s savings in case we had to buy it in black.
A day after that, the then Chief Minister caught COVID and there wasn’t a bed in the hospitals close by.

It’s been just a year and we’ve forgotten how terribly the Karnataka government failed us. How ambulances were turned into makeshift beds to to provide oxygen to people.
The ones that weren’t in the hospital were queued up outside crematoriums, ambulance drivers waiting hours for the solitary dead body in their vehicle to be cremated before they went to get the next one and return to the same crematorium.

@dansiddiqui 's death feels so personal to many of us even though we didn't know him personally. I think this is, in large part, because of his photos. Not just what he shot, but how he shot them. Thread 🧵
All his photos clearly showed who was in power and who wasn't. This famous photo of his doesn't show a Muslim man being beaten up by thugs. It shows a rabid mob beating a Muslim man. What this means? The subject of the photo is not the man. It's the mob.
His photos of migrant workers showed them with dignity. It reminded me of one of the first things I was taught. "Shoot people at their eye level. Don't look up to them or look down on them. Show them for who they are"

To everyone who is saying “there is no clear north-south divide, we have lot of similarities” ofc we have similarities and differences. As any group of people in the world share similarities and differences with one another esp with geographic proximity (1)
The similarities are esp evident in the ways people oppress minorities, even if the oppressor’s caste/gender/language varies.

The demand for a separate state (which is now a dying voice) is to ensure a focus and priority on the issues and concerns of South Indians.
These concerns are sidelined because we are largely governed by people who don’t belong to the south and have no understanding of our reality.

But even in the unrealistic scenario where dravidanadu becomes a state, it won’t be any “better” ethically or culturally.

Most people in North-Central India don’t understand how racist they are to South Indians, both as a society and as individuals.

Our culture & history has always been looked at as inferior, erased or mocked/misrepresented. Here are some basic, glaring differences b/w North-South
1. Names: My great grandfather’s name is T.K. Suchindran - Thanissery Kumaran Suchindran. My actual name is P.V. Vaishnavi - Peruvamba Vadakkanchery Vaishnavi. A lot of our names are name of village or district/father’s name/maiden name and at times suffixed by caste name.
For all the vadaks who’ve asked me “why you madrasis don’t have a family name” here is your answer.

TW: sexual abuse
When I was sexually assaulted at 14 I cried my way back home got a fever & stayed in bed for a week.

When I was flashed at 15 after a board exam, I walked away and tried to focus on my next exam instead of thinking of the gross things I saw.
When I was sexually assaulted at 18 I kept quiet because I willingly slept next to the guy, even though I objected to everything he did to me the whole night.

When I got sexually assaulted at 19, I was confused. He was someone I liked but I didn't like what he did to me. Maybe..
...he didn't know what he was doing? Maybe he touched me accidentally, even though I moved away from him and he came up to touch me again? So I didn't tell anyone, even my best friends, for the next three years.

Given the way the current government is handling the pandemic, activists and individuals from various human rights and health organisations have written an open letter to the 74th World Health Assembly. Please read, endorse and share
We are only in our second wave and we are devastatingly low on medical resources, beds, vaccines and pretty much everything. We have more waves to endure and the next one will harm children more. We need the pressure and help from international communities to make it through
