"...whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. Beloved... the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness."

"... Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes."

1. To walk like Jesus is to be a disciple of Jesus.
- A disciple is one who follows Jesus, to learn from Jesus, to become more like Jesus.
-- Living, acting, loving like He did.

v7-8 "an old command... yet I am writing you a new command" --- John 13:34 "A new command I give you, love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

2. To walk like Jesus is to love like Jesus.
- v8 "Yet I am writing you a new command, its truth is seen in him AND in you."

- Jesus's love FOR me awakens love IN me.
-- We were MADE to love. To love, relate, honor the creator who made you.
-- Sin distorts and corrupts love.
-- Jesus died for our sins because of love.
-- The Holy Spirit fills us with love.

He changes our hearts, so we can do what we were made to do.

- How we treat people MATTERS to Jesus.

We have blended so much the idea of feelings with love.

3. To walk like Jesus is to CHOOSE to love.
- Your choice to respond to God's grace and then your choice to respond to Him and love, not hate.

- Both love/hate R about choices NOT about feelings.
-- As we misunderstand love as feelings, John is not talking about feelings of hate. It's not feelings that matter, it's ACTION. He's not saying that some of U have feelings of hate, he's saying some of U R ACTING in hatefully

- We can choose to love or we can choose to be unloving.
-- When you act out of self-centeredness, you're NOT acting out of love.
-- You're not here for you.

v11. "...whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness..."

- Love brings light; hate brings darkness.
- Jesus' love FOR me is meant to awaken love IN me.

John 14:15-17 “If U love me, U will keep my commands. I will ask the Father, & he will give U another Helper, to be with U forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. U know him, for he dwells with U & will be in U.

UR going to fail.

That's why earlier.....

1John 1:7,8... "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with 1another, & the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin....

.....If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, & the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful & just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
